A project combining nature and the needs of residents/residents has been created in the heart of the rapidly developing city of Poznan. It is a student response to a competition organized by the City of Poznań, the Latin Parish of the Name of Jesus, the University of Arts in Poznań, Adam Mickiewicz University, the University of Life Sciences and Poznań University of Technology - held under the honorary patronage of the Poznań City Council. The competition was aimed at male and female students of four Poznań universities, and its goal was to develop a spatial and functional concept for the pastoral center and the surrounding green space in the Łacina estate.

Green Łacina - the project of the future

Among the many proposals submitted, the competition jury awarded the project by a student team: Weronika Kalota and Jakub Zajadacz from the University of Arts in Poznań and Szymon Musiałowski from Poznań University of Technology. Their joint vision titled "Green Latin" was recognized for its comprehensive approach, originality and deep understanding of the needs of the local community.

The winning project not only responds to the expectations of residents/residents, but also refers to a broad urban, ecological and social context. This is not just a green square - it is a complex concept of inclusive space, responding to the contemporary challenges of the city and its residents. The authors analyzed local urban proportions, the character of the development, environmental aspects such as sunlight and acoustics, and the ecological connections of the site.

One of the most interesting elements of the concept is the differentiation of site levels. This treatment made it possible to create both intimate corners and spaces for larger events - and at the same time significantly improves acoustic comfort and gives the impression of more space. In the central part, a lowering of the site was designed, which serves as a rain garden - local rainwater retention.

space for living, relaxation and meetings

Green Latin has been divided into a number of zones to suit different needs and lifestyles. There is a meeting and event area in front of the church, an amphitheater, a zone of tranquility among the greenery, a clearing for sunbathing, a playground and a space for drinking coffee. Each of these elements has an individual character, and the whole maintains a coherent, thoughtful composition.

The communication layout has not been forgotten either. Thoughtful paths are led in a smooth manner, in accordance with the organic character of the land development. Their width and type of paving determine the hierarchy and function - from main routes to intimate passages. At the intersections of trails and at important sites, so-called "meeting nodes" have been located - squares of various forms, which promote integration and various forms of activity.

Particular attention is also drawn to the visual layer of the project - attractive graphics and a three-dimensional model, which conveys the idea of the space in an accessible way. This is not just a conceptual design - it is a realistic vision of what the future of the urban landscape friendly to residents/residents may look like.

The authors and designer of the project emphasize that the key in their work was to maintain fluidity - both in the form of the terrain, greenery and traffic layout.

The most important aspect for us in the process of designing the park was to maintain fluidity in the organic formation of its terrain, greenery forms and communication. To this end, we decided to create a mock-up and use such materials for its construction that would not limit our imagination in the use of plastic means of expression," says the winning team.

Their project is an example of how combining young creative energy with social and ecological sensitivity can produce exceptional results. Green Latin proves that contemporary landscape architecture can not only be functional and aesthetically pleasing, but also play an important social role.
