What should a dormitory look like in the 21st century? The answer to this question was sought by Dominika Czyrnek and Mateusz Łańcucki from the Faculty of Architecture at the Gdansk University of Technology, under the direction of dry Agnieszka Blażko and dry Małgorzata Skrzypek-Łachińska. Their project "Green Rhythm", developed under the subject: Architectural Design, redefines the concept of a student house - transforming it from a place of temporary residence into a space of life, relationships and balance.

architecture rooted in nature
"Green Rhythm" is not just a dormitory, but an ecosystem of architecture and greenery. Located at the intersection of Żołnierzy Wyklętych Avenue and Partyzantów Street in Gdańsk, the building was planned as part of an urban landscape in which greenery becomes the main character. The L-shaped layout opens to an interior terrace on the quieter side of the plot. The designers focused on preserving existing trees and introducing new plantings to make the space around the dorm resemble a garden rather than a campus hinterland.
On the street side, the building is sheltered by an openwork, vegetated facade, which not only filters noise and light, but also creates the impression that the building "breathes nature." Greenery does not function as an ornamental - it is an integral part of the architecture, which regulates the microclimate and improves the well-being of residents.

community and the rhythm of everyday life
At the heart of "Green Rhythm" are the communal spaces - designed to foster meetings and the exchange of ideas. Every two floors there are open areas with large glass windows and high ceilings - filled with light, warmth and life. This is where students can study, relax or cook together.
A cafeteria, party room, gym and yoga space are planned on the first floor, creating a balanced environment for learning, relaxation and integration. This layout introduces the natural ritual of the day - from the privacy of rooms, to intimate meetings in small groups, to open, shared spaces that build bonds.

physical and mental comfort
The designers focused on the well-being of the residents. Each segment consists of three single rooms, a shared bathroom and a sharing area - providing a balance between privacy and sharing daily life. The rooms face the inner courtyard, protecting them from the hustle and bustle of the street, while corridors running on the south side act as an acoustic buffer.
Ecology and activity have not been forgotten either - the garage provides space for bicycles for each resident, while the building's surroundings include recreational zones and gardens.

dormitory of the future
"Green Rhythm" is a vision of a modern dormitory, where architecture, nature and community form a harmonious whole. The project proves that a student dormitory can be more than cheap accommodation - it can be a space that supports development, relationships and mental health.
