How to abolish barriers in urban space and make time spent in public places enjoyable? Answers to these questions are provided by {tag:studenci} in the design of modular neighborhood squares in Lodz in his thesis created under the supervision of Professor Agnieszka Jaszczak in the Department of Architecture Uniwersytet Warmińsko-Mazurski w Olsztynie.
The issue of social exclusion of the elderly in the context of the use of public spaces in cities is a topic of growing importance. In the paper, the author attempts to define the problem and identify design solutions that can contribute to the inclusion of the elderly in urban space. Particular emphasis is placed on the revitalization and adaptation of common spaces in neighborhoods inhabited and used by seniors. The study takes into account functionality, references to the original layout, style and character of the studied settlements but also aspects of green therapy.
In her work, the author placed particular emphasis on the issues of "renewal" of squares and greens, paying attention to universal design and referring to the needs of the elderly, often excluded in urban space, especially in residential estates

what neighborhoods do seniors want to live in?
Public spaces of selected urban settlements in Lodz were analyzed. An assessment was carried out of their accessibility and attractiveness for seniors, lighting, small architecture equipment, paving, as well as a diagnosis of residents' needs. The work resulted in design studies of three fragments of settlements (squares and greens), enriched with a catalog of model modular solutions that can be adapted in other areas. Their design draws inspiration from modernism and postmodernism, which allows them to fit harmoniously into the existing context and respond to the sentimental needs of older residents.

Due to the locations of the individual squares, the module concepts have a different layout and therefore differ in their functional scheme. The main common assumption, however, was integration, so in each concept we will find places for common meetings and activities. There could be no shortage of places for relaxation and sports activities. Users will be able to take advantage of solutions (e.g. sensory) to improve well-being, physical and mental fitness. Special attention has been paid to the healing effects of vegetation, so aromatherapy and health-enhancing species have been included in the designs. The layout of the modules is designed with universal design principles and is accessible to everyone.
architecture in the service of all generations
The proposed concepts take into account the needs of people with limited mobility and offer solutions to foster intergenerational integration. The elements of small architecture, sensory and rehabilitation spaces create a coherent system that not only increases the accessibility of urban space, but also improves the quality of life for seniors. The work is therefore an attempt to combine design sensibilities with the real needs of users, offering concrete tools for shaping a more friendly and functional urban environment. The work was awarded in the thesis competition of the Association of Polish Landscape Architects (SPAK).

In addition to the selection of plant forms, interesting are the solutions of details, paving, lighting and small architecture, in which she referred to the inspiration of architectural forms, colors, but also artistic installations and Lodz neon signs
