A city in the rhythm of needs - the functional heart of Gliwice

The project "Urban and architectural concept of a residential and commercial development complex between Kujawska and Pszczyna Streets in Gliwice" assumes the creation of a modern, multifunctional part of the city, which fits into the existing urban layout and at the same time builds new spatial values.

The premise has been divided into three main zones: service area, green space and residential area. Such a layout of the space corresponds to local needs and context - the services were located closer to the Arena, the residential area on Pszczyna Street, and the greenery centrally - as a buffer and common place.

Valleys, roofs and brick - architecture in dialogue with the environment

The main concept - to create the impression of a "valley " - is manifested in the gradation of the heights of the buildings, which slope down towards the central green zone.

Service buildings, serving as a hotel, catering and exhibition space, are located on the side of Kujawska Street. The residential development, set back from Pszczynska Street, has been divided into four quarters with woonerfs. The designed blocks have sloping roofs, loggias and brick facades, which refers to the local architectural tradition.

mobility and tranquility - modern transportation solutions

The project assumes limiting car traffic inside the establishment. A multi-level parking lot, two covered parking lots and a western parking lot have been planned, which allows to maintain functionality without excessive interference with the space.

An important element is a new pedestrian connection between Kujawska and Pszczyna Streets - allowing easy access between the dormitories and Arena Gliwice.

The project focuses on protecting the existing stand of trees and introducing new greenery: floral meadows, sensory gardens and rows of trees. Blue infrastructure - in the form of retention tanks - complements the whole, supporting water management and microclimate.

The recreation zone responds to the needs of different user groups - from children to seniors. Among the things planned are:

  • a zone of movement (sports fields, playgrounds, gyms),

  • a relaxation zone (a graduation tower, places for bonfires, a clearing),

  • anevent zone (outdoor cinema, foodtrucks),

  • a green zone with a sensory garden and small water infrastructure.

towards a responsible city of the future

Paulina Zych's project is an example of conscious, sustainable urban design. It combines functionality, aesthetics and climate responsibility - with a vision of space that not only responds to the needs of residents, but also strengthens the identity of the place.

It is a modern answer of the young generation of architects to the question: what should the city we really want to live in look like?
