"Best Diploma Architecture"

Who do I want to be as an architect? Perhaps a better question would be how I want to impact the world as a person and how my work can help me do that. A person who shapes the space around people has a huge and real impact on their lives. Architecture can both educate, awaken emotions and influence the planet. What to do with this power and how to use it responsibly? What are the current problems and needs of society and the planet? These questions guided me through the process of choosing the topic for this diploma.

The project responds to the current problem of the climate crisis and the lack of sufficient knowledge about it. The work presents an architectural concept for a mobile pavilion designed to spread awareness about the causes and effects of climate change. The pavilion is to travel from one city to another, as an unusual object to attract residents to come, visit and learn about the topic.

This unusual space is built as a membrane structure, using both pneumatic and tent elements. This type of construction allows for an unusual appearance, it is also easy to transport and relatively quick to build. The structure, as a temporary pavilion, does not permanently interfere with the site, and can easily be rearranged for another purpose once its mission has been fulfilled. What's more, the project's main building material - ETFE film - is fully recyclable. As for energy self-sufficiency, the facility is to be powered by an Organic Photovoltaics system, which is integrated into the ETFE film.

To catch and hold the user's attention, the facility is to affect people not only with visual effects, but also with sound, smell and spatial sensations. The encounter with the designed object is to be emotional and affect all the senses.

It was designed as a pathway through climate change spaced in time. We enter the past, pass the present and end up in the future. The building is based on two types of pylons, inflatable and membrane. The user goes inside into a space full of pneumatic structures of various sizes. He sees forests, animals, a biodiverse planet projected onto the inflatable pylons; he smells the scent of trees; he hears the rustling of leaves and the sound of a stream. The space symbolizes nature untouched by man and occupies 64 percent of the area of the zone known as the PROGRESS, since on Earth in 1950 it accounted for 64 percent of the planet's surface. The second type of pylons covers the remaining 36 percent of the area and indicates space with human interference on Earth. These structures form the main passage through the zone. Inside them, one can see how the population is growing, urbanization is progressing and industry is developing. Moving on to a zone called THERESA, the user enters a space where an area with inflatable pylons covers 35 percent and membrane pylons cover 65. Today, only 35 percent of the Earth's wildlife remains. Next, the visitor encounters a huge inflatable bubble - the FUTURE. Since it depends on our actions, the third zone is the projection room.

Users enter the interior of the pneumatic structure and observe possible scenarios for the future of our planet and actions they can take to prevent tragedy. The placement and form of the pylons are not only a result of the idea of the facility's operation, they also form a structural system of low and high points, allowing the fabric to be properly tensioned.

Summary: The idea of the project comes from the analysis of current problems and needs of society and the planet. It is a response to the questions posed to the author about career and, above all, life goals. The mission of the project is to attract people to the designed building, to effectively transfer knowledge about the current climate crisis and to minimize interference with the planet during the creation and use of the building.
