Installation of underfloor heating on the existing floor

18 of July '22

Making underfloor heating in a renovated house or apartment does not have to be a time-consuming process at all. Klettjet R and TS14 R renovation systems from the Purmo brand offer do not require forging of the screed, which dramatically speeds up and improves installation work.

Thermal comfort in a home space largely determines the comfort of its use, and in a broader perspective - the quality of our lives. Hence, when preparing for a renovation, it is worthwhile to carefully analyze the heating solutions available on the market and choose the optimal proposal.

The unquestionable advantages of underfloor heating are rapidly gaining more and more supporters, who, in addition to the guarantee of very favorable temperature distribution in the room, particularly value the energy efficiency and environmental friendliness of this solution, as well as the fact that the installation elements - in contrast to traditional radiators - are hidden under the floor.

However, until recently, this option was rarely considered for renovated rooms, because the installation of an underfloor heating system involved tearing up the old floor, which generated additional costs and prolonged the duration of the renovation.

Thanks to Purmo's Klettjet R and TS14 R renovation systems, which are laid directly on the existing floor, this restriction has been virtually eliminated.

Purmo Klettjet R system

The key component of the Purmo Klettjet R system is a 6-mm-thick self-adhesive PE mat that can be attached, for example, to a ceramic tile floor. Velcro pipes with a diameter of 16 mm are then attached to the mat. This system allows for easy and fast installation - the entire project can be easily completed by one person using a pipe uncoiler (the use of a taker and clips is not necessary).

What's more, the spacing of the pipes can be arbitrary, as a result of which fitting the system to the geometry of the room does not cause any trouble. Finally, the installation is covered with an anhydrite screed. The total height of Purmo Klettjet R is about 40 mm.

Purmo TS14 R system

An underfloor heating system designed for installation on an existing floor is also Purmo TS14 R. Its basic element is a system board made of polystyrene foam, covered with aluminum sheet. The Purmo TS14 R also includes 14 mm diameter pipes with an aluminum insert, which are mounted in channels located on the surface of the board.

Directly on the board we can lay floating parquet or floor panels with a minimum thickness of 15mm, while finishing the floor with, for example, ceramics or carpets requires the use of an additional system support board with a thickness of only 5mm or dry screed boards.

Consequently, the height of Purmo TS14 R can be from 30 to 40 mm. This system is also used when installing wall heating, in addition, it will prove useful for cooling the room.

The Klettjet R and TS14 R systems from the Purmo brand portfolio make it possible to make underfloor heating installations where for a long time this was considerably difficult. Users of renovated or modernized houses and apartments can now take full advantage of the advantages of this solution. In addition, the low height of Klettjet R and TS14 R makes the floor heat up about 3 times fasterthan when using traditional systems.
