The light installation project by Cezary Izydorczyk, Monika Makowska and Iga Janicka, students of interior design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz, is a contemporary interpretation of the city's Art Nouveau identity. The concept was created under the supervision of Aleksander Dynarek as a site-specific project, created with a specific urban and cultural context in mind. The installation could stand in the space of the Old Town Park, creating a symbolic transition between history and modernity. The project is part of Lodz' s character as a city of dialogue between art, light and architectural heritage.

Inspired by Art Nouveau and urban space
The form of the installation grows out of an analysis of the space of Liberty Square and the turn-of-the-century architecture characteristic of Lodz. The project draws on the soft lines, rhythmic divisions and organic ornaments that define local Art Nouveau.
It is not a literal reconstruction of historical forms, but their contemporary interpretation. The installation translates the language of decorative architecture into a light, transparent light structure that reacts to its surroundings and changes with the viewer's perception.

architectural references and symbolism
The installation's frame formally refers to the sacred architecture located at Liberty Square. Its verticalism and arched divisions have been translated into a subtle, contemporary spatial construction.
It is a conscious juxtaposition of two orders: the sacred and the everyday, monumentality and lightness, history and contemporary design sensibility. The installation functions as a symbolic gateway - a structure of passage rather than a closed form.

experience of light and movement
The most important medium of the project is light as an element of spatial narration. The installation guides visitors and guests through its interior, encouraging them to stop, contemplate and look up.
The object is not just a visual form - it becomes a space of experience. It is a place of reflection between architecture and nature, movement and stopping, everyday life and a moment of reflection.

identity of the city written in light
The project highlights the unique character of Lodz as a city with a strong Art Nouveau heritage, but also open to contemporary art forms. The installation acts as a spatial commentary on the city's history, interpreted through the language of modern design and technology.

This is a proposal for ephemeral architecture, which does not dominate the space, but enhances it - through light, rhythm and experience.
