Sports and recreational facilities are places of intensive use, generating pedestrian and vehicle traffic, especially during organized events and the tourist season. This often entails the need for adequate infrastructure, including parking and paved walkways. Traditional solutions such as asphalt or concrete, while durable, can negatively impact the environment by reducing water permeability and increasing the urban heat island effect. An alternative that combines functionality with ecology is GEOSYSTEM eco-grates, which have been manufactured in Poland for 20 years.

These innovative products are increasingly used at sports and recreational facilities, offering a range of benefits for both users and the environment. Their modular design and high strength allow the creation of stable and permeable pavements, ideal for a variety of applications.

Green Car Parks - Functionality and Aesthetics

One of the most popular applications for GEOSYSTEM eco-grids at sports and recreational facilities are grass parking lots. Many facilities experience peak parking loads only during organized events - matches, competitions, cultural events or during the tourist season. Most of the time, vast concrete parking lots remain almost empty. In such a case, the ideal solution is to use GEOSYSTEM eco-grid and sow it with grass.

An excellent example of such an implementation is Motoarena Toruń. Already in 2010, GEOSYSTEM grids were used on an area of nearly 14,000 m2, backfilled with soil and seeded with a special grass mixture geoGRASS. On a daily basis, the parking lot pleases the eye with luscious greenery, blending in with the surroundings and increasing the biodiversity of the area. During mass events, on the other hand, the stable and grid-reinforced grass pavement easily withstands the load of parked cars, providing additional parking space. This smart solution combines aesthetics with functionality, minimizing the negative impact on the environment.

Another example is the 'Suwałki Arena' sports and entertainment arena, commissioned at the end of November 2019. GEOSYSTEM G5 max grids were used in an area of 1200 sqm in front of the facility. The fortified square serves as a temporary parking area for guests or broadcast vehicles during cultural and sports events. Importantly, the solution used also meets formal requirements for a fire road.

Site Reinforcement - Safety and Durability

GEOSYSTEM eco-grates are used not only in parking lots. Their surface strengthening properties are invaluable in other areas of sports and recreational facilities. An example is the Water and Land Sailing Center Słoneczna Polana in Olsztyn. There, grids fortified the area in front of the hangars where boats are stored. Thanks to this solution, grass can grow freely, preserving the natural character of the area, while at the same time the surface is strong enough to allow the safe passage of boats on trailers. The grids distribute the load, preventing ruts and damage to the pavement.

At the Aeroclub of the Piotrkowska Land, GEOSYSTEM gratings reinforce the taxiway for recreational aircraft, ensuring the safe and stable movement of aircraft around the airport area. And at Krywlany airport, the gratings reinforce the runway shoulders and RESA (Runway End Safety Area), increasing the safety of flight operations.

Recreation - Functional and Aesthetic Solutions

GEOSYSTEM eco-grates are also widely used in recreation. Filled with aggregate, they work well as access roads at campgrounds, as exemplified by Camp na Wydmie in Leba. They provide a stable and permeable surface, resistant to intensive use. Grates filled with basalt look great at the W POLACH recreation center where they reinforce footpaths and rest areas, creating durable and aesthetically pleasing surfaces.
