"10 Questions to an Interior Designer" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...".This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Karina Roman of the P/ART studio talks about her approach to design.
Karina Roman - graduated from the School of Interiors and Spaces at the Krakow Art Schools and industrial design at the Higher School of Management and Ecology in Warsaw (now the Technical and Artistic Academy). She began her adventure with interiors, gaining experience in smaller studios and designing furniture. Privately, she loves traveling, photography, good cuisine and nice objects.
1 For me, home is...
A space where I feel comfortable, where I relax, create, plan and spend time with my family.
2.The key to a successful interior design is....
A relationship with the developer, moving in a common direction, consistency and honesty. My work
is not only to figure out how the whole space should function, what it should consist of and how it should
look like, but also explaining, arguing the pros and cons of various solutions, and above all
above all, support throughout the process.
3 - I look for inspiration....
Basically, it's hard to standardize. They are books, albums, magazines, travel, which I love. Whether it is in the form of exploring the architecture of cities or relaxing surrounded by nature. And sometimes I just
I just walk around the stores, looking at materials, touching textures.
4 In cooperation with a developer the most important thing is....
The most important thing is the contact between us, mutual listening, respect, just a good relationship.
I care that clients feel comfortable with me, only then we can create something good. I am really very lucky with clients.
5 My favorite design style is.
I like eclecticism with a colorful twist, minimalist interiors and mid-century vibe. I don't choose one style. I interweave them, and when designing I focus on the whole space, the needs of the investors, what they feel best in and what they like. What resonates most with me are natural materials like stones and wood and their timelessness. I myself relax best in calm interiors, among soft colors.
6 The most important object in my home is....
I don't have one most important item. I like it when I add a few seemingly simple decorations, such as frosted glass, books or, for example, a favorite vase I made at a ceramics workshop, to create that homey atmosphere.
7 The most common mistake in self-decorating is.
Not thinking through the functionality and focusing only on the appearance of the interior. This is supposed to be a home and living space so comfort and meeting your requirements is key. Each of us lives differently, rests differently, spends time with family and friends in a different way and we should adjust our space to that.
8 My favorite material is.
Stone and wood. Both offer great possibilities and please the eye with amazing finishes, patterns and textures. Nature can't be faked and that's wonderful.
9 A trend I wish would pass away already is....
I don't have one. I don't follow trends. I like the fact that today's customers are more conscious and choose what suits them, what they like, without looking at others or what the neighbor has chosen. We are creating more "homes" today than catalog interiors, and that's great. I certainly wish we would choose more consciously, for ourselves. Less imitations more natural materials.
10 I would like, someday to live in....
In a house with a view of the lake and mountains. Such a house sounds like a dream come true.
