Economical and efficient Rotenso systems for heating and cooling buildings

06 of September '21

Stable thermal conditions of the building throughout the year.
From the series "Heating, ventilation, air conditioning - solutions and inspirations 2021"

Increasingly hotter summers and higher average annual temperatures make an air conditioning system an important requirement in both newly constructed commercial and residential buildings. It is worth knowing that investors' expectations do not have to be limited to the use of a system in cooling mode. Currently, with the help of an air-conditioning system, we can ensure stable thermal conditions in the building throughout the year, even if we stay in it occasionally. Deciding to install an air-to-air heat pump, we can expect the system to serve both to air condition the building and to heat it.

Heating power of air conditioning

Equipment manufacturers are outdoing themselves in improving technology to make ecological and economical air-conditioning systems have added value, for example, in the form of a year-round operation package that guarantees high efficiency of air-conditioning units in heating mode, two-stage compressors or built-in EXV valves. Taking into account that in our climate zone the heating season lasts up to 8 months - this parameter should be key when choosing an air conditioner that is also to be the only source of heat. Dedicated to year-round operation, air conditioners such as Rotenso Mirai, Teta, Revio or Imoto, in addition to short, but hot summers, effectively perform the heating function in the autumn-winter season, even in extremely low temperatures to -30°C for Rotenso Mirai, to -25°C for air conditioner Teta and Revio or -22°C for Rotenso Imoto. The high seasonal heating efficiency, known as SCOP, is 5.3 for the Mirai air conditioner, 4.6 for the Revio and Imoto, and 4.0 for the Teta, respectively, allowing the units to be used as stand-alone heat sources.

Fast heat, stable thermal conditions

Air conditioners as a stand-alone heating source are increasingly used in commercial premises, that is, where there is no need to heat the premises around the clock, but where it is important to achieve the desired temperature in the shortest possible time. In the case of newly constructed commercial and residential buildings, economic considerations speak for the use of an air conditioning system for heating purposes. The installation of an air-conditioning system, which requires only a connection to the existing electrical network, avoids the cost of making a design and connections to the gas network, for example, and in the case of solid fuel boilers, the investment in building a chimney and having a boiler room.

This ecological and economical solution is also valued by owners of summer cottages, as well as people who are often away from home. Well, air conditioners of a good class like the mentioned Mirai, Teta, Revio, or Imoto are equipped with a useful smart control system, including the SMART 8°C or SMART 12°C function. Thanks to them, we can prevent excessive cooling of the room, the air conditioner turns on automatically in heating mode, and the air temperature in the room is maintained at a constant level, not lower than 8°C or 12°C. In this way, with a minimum cost of energy consumption in the premises, the stable thermal conditions necessary for maintaining the building and its equipment in good condition are maintained. In this context, the available air dehumidification mode will also be useful, allowing to drain up to 2l of water from the air per hour, depending on the power of the device.

Heat pump for heating and air conditioning....

Innovative, the Rotenso Multi Split Aquami system is an integrated, high-efficiency installation that makes it possible to realize the need to heat and cool a building simultaneously. The advantages of such a solution are obvious - the customer bears the cost of purchasing one rather than two installations, and the same applies to installation and service costs.

Combination of air-to-water and air-to-air pumps

What does a hybrid consist of? By combining the outdoor unit of an air-to-water heat pump system and the indoor unit of a heat pump with a heating capacity of 8k W in a single system , the possibility of heating or cooling rooms with air conditioners, heating them with water through CO floor heating or radiators and, of course, preparing domestic hot water DHW has been created. The hybrid system allows the connection of 4 indoor units: in addition to the indoor hydronic unit (working in the air-to-water system), which performs the heating function and, naturally, the domestic hot water storage tank, we can connect to the system up to any 3 air conditioners with a total capacity of up to 12 kW. There is no doubt that the innovative system will meet many important needs of the investor.

The advantage is the savings at the stage of purchase and servicing of a single system that simultaneously meets the requirements of efficient heating and cooling of the building. In addition to economic considerations, aesthetics are also important for property owners, so that only one outdoor unit can be placed next to the building, instead of two.
