Thermocork - the natural coating of the future in architecture!

13 of March '26

Contemporary architecture is increasingly moving toward solutions that combine aesthetics, durability and environmental responsibility. One of the materials in line with this trend is Thermocork, a spray-on coating based on natural cork that offers an alternative to traditional finishing and insulation systems.

Thermocork is a thin-film, seamless coating made from cork granules extracted from cork oak bark, combined with water-based resins and mineral additives. Cork itself is a renewable material - its extraction does not require cutting down trees, only cyclic harvesting of the bark, which makes it an extremely sustainable raw material.

A key advantage of Thermocork is its multifunctionality. The coating has both an insulating and decorative function, which makes it possible to reduce the number of technological layers in the building envelope. Cork naturally insulates thermally and acoustically, and thanks to its air-filled cellular structure it effectively reduces heat loss and dampens sound. In practice, this means improved occupant comfort and lower building operating costs.

The material is also distinguished by its high resistance to atmospheric factors. It is flexible, resistant to UV radiation and atmospheric conditions, which makes it ideal for both new construction and renovation of existing buildings. Importantly, the coating can be applied to a variety of substrates - from concrete and plaster, brick, through wood and metal, to roofing materials such as tile, sheetrock and sheet metal.

The application of Thermocork is very versatile. In exterior architecture it is used on facades, roofs, terraces and elements of small architecture, where it has a protective and aesthetic function. Interiors gain from it a natural, warm finish for walls, improved acoustics and a healthy microclimate - the material is non-toxic and vapor-permeable, which promotes the "breathing" of partitions, regulates humidity, prevents condensation, improves living comfort and air quality.

A particularly interesting aspect is that cork is a material with a low carbon footprint (natural, renewable, sustainable). It prevents mold and material degradation. It fits perfectly with the idea of "low-impact building", as it reduces energy consumption, which translates into lower heating and air conditioning costs.

Looking to the future, Thermocork has the potential to become one of the key materials in sustainable design. It can be used in modular architecture, passive construction or the adaptation of historic buildings as well as public buildings.

Thermocork is an example of a material that redefines the approach to finishes and insulation - instead of multiple layers, it offers a single, consistent solution. It combines natural origins with modern technology, responding to the needs of the architecture of the future: energy-efficient, durable and environmentally friendly.

To sum up:

  • is natural, renewable and low-carbon
  • supports sustainable building design
  • significantly improves energy efficiency (key in passive houses)
  • ensures healthy microclimate and durability of structures.
