from the series "Sports, recreational facilities - trends 2025"
Owners and operators of sports facilities are facing more challenges today than ever before. Modern stadiums and arenas are changing dynamically, responding to the growing demands of spectators, media and event organizers. These venues are transforming into multifunctional centers - from sports and cultural events to entertainment and business events.
A modern sports facility must be prepared not only for matches or training, but also for concerts, trade fairs or conferences. At the same time, while seeking additional sources of funding, it must meet increasingly stringent technical requirements for broadcasts, including 4K and slow-motion television.
Audiences accustomed to high-quality broadcasts expect an equally intense experience at live events as well - from the entrance to the stadium, to the comfort of the seats, to the visual experience and service in the VIP areas. There is also increasing pressure to ensure safety, both for event attendees and athletes. EU regulations further oblige venue owners to implement solutions that support sustainability, including intelligent lighting management systems.
A leader in this area is Signify (formerly Philips Lighting), a manufacturer of advanced lighting solutions and control systems. Its Interact, Field & Court and Philips Dynalite lighting management systems, and Philips-branded LED luminaires and Color Kinetics illumination system, have been successfully implemented in hundreds of venues of all sizes around the world - from stadiums and arenas to tennis courts, swimming pools or eagle pitches, and meet international and national standards (UEFA, FIBA, IAAF, TV)

Thanks to the Interact system, venue operators can flexibly adjust the lighting to the rank of the event, the type of discipline or the requirements of the TV broadcast. The system is based on IoT technology that allows remote management of each lighting point: monitoring the state of the infrastructure, diagnosing faults, and adjusting: dimming, setting schedules, from anywhere, with Internet access.

Large venues, such as stadiums and arenas, are open not only on game days. With Interact, facility operators can flexibly adjust the lighting according to the rank of the event, the type of sport and broadcast requirements. Using IoT technology, the system allows remote management of each lighting point: dimming, setting schedules or diagnosing faults from anywhere with Internet access.
Managers can adjust light intensity in real time to suit current needs and indoor usage scenarios. Philips Dynalite allows full control of lighting intensity and scenarios - from circulation areas, VIP boxes, conference rooms, stores and back rooms to technical spaces.

Illuminations and emotion design
Lighting plays a key role in building the atmosphere of an event, the experience of the audience and the image of the venue in the urban space. With the Color Kinetics system , it is possible to design dynamic illuminations of facility facades with, for example, the colors of the flag on national holidays or club colors on match days.
Using the Interact system, colorful lighting scenes are designed on stands and turf - with high color reproduction quality (CRI up to 90), during, before and after the main event. The Interact Sport system can also be integrated with other existing control systems at the facility.
Trend - technologies for well-being and the environment
An important trend in sports facilities is the use of Human Centric Lighting (HCL) solutions to support the natural diurnal rhythm of users. An example is theNatureConnect lighting system , which - based on the principles of biophilic design - replicates the cycle of natural daylight in indoor spaces. It thus improves the well-being, concentration and regeneration of players. The lighting changes throughout the day: in the morning it increases in intensity, stimulating alertness and cortisol production, and in the evening it dims, promoting melatonin secretion. It can be used in rooms such as locker rooms, offices and conference rooms.

Reducing light pollution
One of the key challenges for designers is to reduce light pollution. Good design reduces light emissions so as not to disrupt the ecosystem and negatively impact human health. With advanced luminaires from Philips ArenaVision, OptiVision, ClearFlood, and Interact City, or Field & Court, light distribution can be designed with precision, directing light only to the surface of a parking lot or playing field.
Knowledge and support at the speed of light
Signify supports investors and architects at all stages of construction - from design, to selection of luminaires and systems, to implementation supervision. It offers solutions for indoor and outdoor spaces: from facades, to sports arenas and fan zones to catering areas, back-of-house operations, parking lots, and fire escapes.
Signify is also a key partner of DIAL. Most of the luminaires in Signify's portfolio are available in the free DIALux software. Photometric files can be downloaded both directly from the software and from the online catalog on the Light Pioneers portal.
