Dynamic elemental facade with many facets

From the series "Window and door trends 2021"

Accelerating urbanization is causing architects and planners to look for ways to make more efficient use of space for development, and the buildings they design are becoming taller and more multifunctional. Easy and cost-effective implementation of complex projects is enabled by the dynamic platform of Schüco AF UDC 80 elemental facade systems.

According to UN projections, by 2050 more than two-thirds of the world's population will live in urban areas. Cities are not only increasing in size, they are also "growing" taller, driven by the need to make better use of limited space. High-rise buildings of the future are expected to bring together multiple functions, whether related to living, working or recreation, providing comfortable and sustainable infrastructure in all these areas. This presents architects with the challenge of reconciling sometimes contradictory issues, such as functionality, specific technical requirements and individual building design. The latest Schüco AF UDC 80 aluminum element facade system provides unprecedented design freedom, as well as the ability to easily and cost-effectively realize ambitious building projects with unique design, even for specific object requirements.

A dynamic and scalable facade system

Thanks to a high degree of prefabrication, element facades make it possible to meet all design requirements while speeding up the installation process and avoiding execution errors. The Schüco AF UDC(Aluminum Façade Unitized Dynamic Construction) dynamicfaçade offers much more - maximum flexibility for individual design, including the ability to design modules with larger dimensions of up to 3000×4000 mm and use alternative materials such as sheet metal, printed glass or natural stone.

Depending on the concept, opaque parts can be flush with the surface of the facade or extended in front of the facade, creating a spatial pattern. The solution provides the freedom to realize a variety of arrangements of translucent and opaque elements. For example, instead of forming a single line vertically, they can be offset relative to each other as desired. In addition, it is possible to use diagonal divisions of the form of rungs.

The clear aesthetics of the structure are provided by profiles with a fixed width of 80 mm, which can be optically reduced without affecting the statics to 65 mm if necessary. At the same time, the facade can provide thermal protection up to passive building standard, thanks to a Uf coefficient of up to 0.81 W/m²K. The insulating power of the structure can be increased by using special glazing packages with a thickness of up to 70 mm.

One facade - many faces

Modern facades are becoming increasingly complex and need to fulfill more and more functions, related to ease of use, ventilation or room climate control. The Schüco AF UDC 80 system comes in two additional design versions that significantly expand design possibilities. Easy and aesthetically pleasing integration of ventilation-related functions is provided by the AF UDC 80 CV variant with concealed hinged or egress windows. The sash frames are hidden in the facade structure, which means that the width of the profiles is always the same, and from the outside it is impossible to distinguish between fixed and opening fields.

The AF UDC 80 and AF UDC 80 CV system versions can be combined within a facade to achieve the desired functionality and consistent design. On the other hand, the AF UDC 80 SG variant, with optional pivot or egress windows of the same design, will be ideal for structural facade projects. In addition, the AF UDC 80 system makes it possible to provide effective sun protection, in the form of external Schüco AB ZDS textile covers, which are invisibly integrated into the facade. Thanks to different types of materials, the degree of shading and outdoor visibility can be freely adjusted. The solution is extremely weatherproof and resistant to wind speeds of up to 25 m/s, equivalent to a wind force of 10 on the Beaufort scale.

In addition to the option of integrating sunshades, the AF UDC 80 facade also allows the clipping in of opening elements, such as windows and portfères.
