From stone to concrete - how pavements are changing

19 of January '26

Modern paving has long since gone beyond the framework set by its prototype - natural stone. It is a modern building material that successfully combines utility durability with aesthetics and design.

As a result, it allows the creation of pavements that are not only functional, but above all beautiful and fully individualized. Although it is formed from heavy concrete, in the hands of designers it becomes an extremely malleable medium, opening a wide field for creative invention.

Modern paving block patterns

A dozen years ago, patterned layouts were an obligatory element of almost any pavement. Although today's trends lean toward uniform layouts that are minimalist in form, it is the well-thought-out compositions that make it possible to give a space a unique expression. They make it possible to distinguish a particular place, introduce dynamism, which is often lacking in economical forms, and emphasize the taste of users. The use of new shapes and colors in the patterns is a design tool, thanks to which the realizations can correspond to the architecture through subtly harmonious arrangements, as well as expressive, dominant accents.

Dialogue with tradition and identity of place

Regional patterns play a special role in the art of paving design. Drawing on local traditions of design and ornamentation, they give the pavement an identity, making it blend naturally with its surroundings. This is an aesthetic dialogue between contemporary form and elements of a site's cultural heritage, allowing traditional motifs to be preserved in a modern setting.

Design and technology in the offer of Chyzbet Group

Chyzbet Group offers a wide range of paving blocks and slabs, allowing the creation of both simple and highly sophisticated layouts. The designs themselves are most often created from smaller pavers with a common width (within the product form) of approx. 9 to approx. 14 cm, which harmonize with the background laid in rows. Moreover, the rich color palette and variety of forms open the way to design compositions of an almost "painterly" character.

In such arrangements, the pattern of paving blocks smoothly extends over the entire pavement, creating a consistent visual effect. This creates a strong impression of dynamics and static-stopped motion. At the same time, it should be remembered that the right choice of pavers is crucial not only for visual reasons, but also for practical reasons - especially where the ground has to meet higher load-bearing requirements.

- Thanks to the varied shapes, types and colors of Chyżbet pavers, we can design pavements like paintings - with individual rhythm, expression and their own character," stresses Tomasz Wójtowicz, chief designer and marketing manager at Chyżbet Group.
