A safe garden and rooms full of light - is this a recipe for the perfect kindergarten? Nikita Bondar of Politechnika Łódzka designed a kindergarten, supporting play in nature and finished with wood.
The project is located in the Retkinia housing estate in Lodz, right next to the side entrance to the Botanical Garden.

The goal of the project was to create a space that not only meets functional requirements, but also inspires
- describes the author.
nature at its heart
The body of the building rises on the plan of a truncated circle. An open garden was created in its center, allowing children to play freely and interact with nature in a safe environment.

The author paid attention to the scale of architecture tailored to the users of the designed facility - children. The kindergarten offers intuitive and safe transitions between spaces.
The interior is divided into zones - entrance, didactic and administrative. The entrance leads from the west side - there from the lobby you can get to the checkroom and the multipurpose room. In the teaching area located in the southern part of the circle, in addition to the teaching rooms, there is also a room for changing and feeding the youngest children.

The didactic zone is separated from the entrance by an administrative part with a secretariat, a room for educators, as well as offices of a psychologist and speech therapist and a nurse. The author has also provided for a quiet work room.

The northern zone of the building is designed for dining rooms and accompanying technical rooms - kitchen, dishwashing room and storerooms.
Green and cozy - bright!
Natural, wooden finishes dominate the design - both in the facade and interior. As a result, the nursery gains a warm, cozy character. Wooden panels also affect the quality acoustics in the facility.
The use of large glazing helped brighten the interiors - so they stimulate children' s senses and combine aesthetics, functionality and contact with the greenery of the garden.

The teaching and common rooms are spacious, bright and open - this is important for both the children and those caring for them. The layout allows easy observation of the wards, as well as free play and integration of groups.

The heart of the daily life of the kindergarten is the centrally located garden. It serves not only a recreational role as a play space, but also an educational one - it allows learning through observation of nature and experience. A bridge runs along the garden, which promotes discovery and activity - it connects the teaching areas with the playrooms.

Equally important is the greenery around the building, which integrates the kindergarten's architecture with the neighboring botanical garden. In addition, the vegetation acts as a barrier - both acoustically and visually. The design makes the kindergarten a safe oasis for children's development. In addition to the garden, the playground located on the east side of the building is also a space for free play.

It is important for the child to feel in the kindergarten as in a second home - a place where everyday life is safe, but at the same time full of new stimuli and opportunities for naka through experiences
- explains the author.
