Neolith® at the Hotel Llevant

25 of November '19

Custom-made Sintered Stone surfaces have been used for a stylish and contemporary hotel in the Costa Brava region.

When Llimona was selected to redesign and re-imagine the entire interior of the Hotel Llevant property, located in the town of Llafranc in the Costa Brava region (Spain), it saw an excellent opportunity to incorporate the inherent connection between the local area and the sea during the design concept.

The interior was therefore to reflect the unpredictable nature of the sea, both calming and agitated, straightforward and yet unfathomable. In imitation of the extraordinary waves, it was necessary to create drama and a feeling of momentousness enveloping the entire interior of the building, evoking awe in guests as soon as they crossed the hotel's threshold.

Early in the design process, Llimona turned to Neolith® to discuss the requirements of the project. The Sintered Stone manufacturer was immediately curious about the challenge the architect was throwing at him.

An important element of the overall aesthetic was to be floors with a distinctive texture extending throughout the hotel. Above all, the architect wanted to find a surface that reflected the roughness and sheen of the seabed with what looked like a delicate pearlescent sheen. In lighting, the surface was to present subtle flecks of blue and red, resembling the shimmering reflection of the bright sun on the water.

This desire prompted Neolith to develop a unique, personalized color, which became an essential design element of the completed project. To achieve the desired surface texture, a Riverwashed finish was used.

The slabs were cut into smaller rectangular tiles of various sizes, and were then laid to create an interesting, uniform yet irregular polygonal effect with a neat finish.

According to Llimona, it is the Neolith brand's readiness and ingenuity that sets it apart from manufacturers of other materials. "We chose Neolith because, in addition to its existing extensive collection of models and colors, it is one of the very few brands ready to create a custom surface. Standard manufacturing procedures and processes are usually fixed and cannot be changed. This is not the case with Neolith. For me, this is the best aspect of working with a brand that does everything possible to give the architect creative freedom." - he explains.
