Light in every room -
OKPOL windows for flat roofs.
From the series "Windows, doors, fittings, covers - trends 2022".

In houses with a flat roof, it is harder to illuminate a room than in the case of attics with a sloped roof. For pitched roofs, the solutions are obvious - roof windows that come in many types, opening methods, and joinery profiles. Less obvious ways of providing light are the installation of windows on a flat roof, although they have been on the market for several years. In the case of modern, newly built developments, flat roof windows are used far more often. They are forgotten when renovating block houses that have been standing since the 1980s. And it's a pity, because facade windows that were too small were often set in these types of blocks. As a result, stairwells and corridors were far too dark, often completely deprived of light supply.

Light in every room

Flat roof windows can be installed in any room, regardless of its purpose. Windows in the 3-pane version are an energy-saving solution, allowing them to be placed under the ceiling of even passive houses. For example, OKPOL's PGX B1 window, which has 3 panes and two warm inter-pane frames, achieves a heat transfer coefficient of Uw=0.64 W/m²K. Such a window will be suitable for both the living room, the aforementioned hallway, bathroom, kitchen and even the children's room. It will not cause heat escape through the glass, thanks to the use of two low-e coatings in the glazing package. For rooms where ventilation is necessary, tilt windows will undoubtedly work well.

Remote control window

For many investors, the puzzling question is how to operate a window mounted just below the ceiling? In the case of windows that are intended only to perform the function of light, this question does not exist, but for tilt windows it can be intriguing. Don't worry - the designers have provided for remote control - PGC tilt windows are controlled by an instinctive in operation, aesthetic, multi-channel remote control AP4. Tilt windows should be used primarily in rooms exposed to moisture, such as kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. PGC will allow ventilation of the interior and constant access to fresh air without fear of possible flooding - the window sash will close automatically during rainfall thanks to the installed rain sensor.

Durability for years

Windows for flat roofs are characterized by robust profiles made of multi-chambered PVC. The chambers, for improved insulation parameters, are filled with polyurethane foam and polystyrene inserts. Importantly, this type of product does not require maintenance. In addition to ordinary washing, they do not force the user to do any additional maintenance. PVC is durable and does not lose its parameters despite the passage of years, it is also resistant to weathering.

Window under the terrace

In many cases of houses with flat roofs, part of the roof is used as a terrace. Is it problematic to install a window right below it ? Not at all! OKPOL has anticipated such a solution and met the expectations of customers who simultaneously want to enjoy a bright room and a safe barbecue on the terrace. In such a case, investors are most likely to choose windows for flat roofs that can be walked on, i.e. PGX A5 with WALK ON function. The design of the glazing package of this solution is so strong that you can not only walk on it freely, but also dance on it! It is characterized by incredible resistance and very high load-bearing capacity thanks to as many as three tempered glass panes. On the outer pane there is an anti-slip coating CAMEO Dot, thanks to which walking on the window will not involve the risk of falling.

Exit to a flat roof through a window?

Another interesting and practical solution is a window with an ergonomic handle that opens the sash. Through this type of window you can comfortably go out onto the roof. The sash of OKPOL's PGM A1 model - thanks to actuators - stops in 3 positions, and its maximum opening is as much as 80 degrees. This not only gives the possibility of ventilation and access to the terrace, but also allows possible evacuation.

Fashionable accessories

Windows for flat roofs can be equipped with accessories to improve their aesthetics and functionality. An example of such a window is the PGX A1 with LED strip, which can act as an additional source of light also in the evenings and at night. Subtle lighting will add a unique atmosphere to the room. The LED strip is controlled with a remote control. With it you can set the desired intensity of light and its color. An additional function of the LED strip is blinking and pulsating. The function, although seemingly unnecessary will work well in bars and pubs, giving them a party atmosphere. LEDs enjoy a long life (they work up to 50,000 hours), low energy consumption and high luminous efficiency - the angle of light dispersion is as high as 120 degrees. LED colors can be selected from millions of colors that are a combination of 3 RGB colors, 7 basic colors are available on the remote control.

An additional accessory for windows for flat roofs are also OKPOL pleated blind s of the P50 type mounted on the inside of the window. They come in two control options - manual and electric. The former version is enabled by an ADK crank available in many sizes, so it can be adapted to most ceilings. The second option is remote control of the roller blind, in which the material will effectively roll up on its own, at the touch of a remote control. The materials of pleated roller blinds are available in the OKPOL flat roof window catalog and come in three combinations, i.e. transparent fabrics (allowing light to pass through), blackout fabrics, which reflect the sun's rays in about 85%, and cellular blackout fabrics, whose level of absorption of light absorbed by the fabric is up to 96%.

Installation of a window in a flat roof

An opinion about the difficulty of installing windows in a flat roof still persists among many construction companies. It is hard to agree with it, because this installation is very easy. Flat roof windows are screwed to the supporting structure and seal the roofing. When fitting the windows into the roof, it may be necessary to make installation patches and later install thermal insulation. As with all construction work, window installation should be outsourced to a specialist. A qualified roofer who has knowledge of both windows and roof construction will perfectly handle the installation of this type of woodwork. It will be helpful to have an installation manual that also indicates what actions should and should not be taken both before and after installing the window.

Room arrangement

The whole charm of a flat roof is hidden in its functional possibilities - deciding on such a structure, we gain an interesting usable space, which, properly arranged, will turn into a favorite place to spend free time. The possibilities are almost endless!
