From the series "Heat pumps - Daikin technologies and solutions 2023"

Heat pumps have grown considerably in popularity in recent times, so it is worthwhile to analyze their types before deciding on a purchase.

We present the Daikin Altherma Hybrid Heat Pump, which combines air-to-water heat pump technology, using renewable energy, with a gas condensing boiler to ensure the highest efficiency. Its intelligent software helps save up to 35% more energy compared to a gas condensing boiler. The system automatically determines the most economical and efficient combination of operation of the two units based on electricity and gas prices, outdoor temperatures and the heat output of the indoor unit.

By extracting energy from the air, Daikin Altherma uses the optimal combination of renewable and traditional energy to heat and supply the home with hot water. When operating in heat pump mode, the system draws renewable energy from the air and electricity to power it, and can achieve an A++ energy efficiency rating. An advantage over a gas boiler is the ability to cool rooms with the use of appropriate consumers, such as fan coils.

Designed with a unique double heat exchanger, Daikin Altherma also uses condensing boiler technology to generate heat and hot water. When the heat pump is used for space heating, the gas boiler can be used to prepare hot water at that time. Cold water from the water supply flows directly to the heat exchanger sunk in the boiler's combustion chamber, which enables optimal and constant condensation of water vapor from the flue gases during hot water preparation, resulting in an increase in efficiency of up to 15% compared to traditional gas condensing boilers with a plate heat exchanger and leading to lower operating costs.

In existing buildings, which typically have poor thermal insulation, the efficiency of heat pumps can be insufficient. Hybrid heat pumps are ideal for renovations and replacing old boilers. The compact design of the Daikin Altherma hybrid heat pump requires minimal installation space and easily integrates with existing piping and radiators. In this way, you can enjoy the energy efficiency of the heat pump without replacing the entire system. The system automatically selects the solution with the highest efficiency. For most of the year, the heat pump works. On days when it's really cold and the temperature drops below the temperature set during the selection of the unit, the gas boiler takes over heat production, and during transitional periods both heat sources can work simultaneously.

Multi Hybrid

The combination of a multisplit system and a hybrid heat pump, the Multi Hybrid, provides a comprehensive solution for combining the functions of air conditioning, domestic hot water preparation and space heating. Different types of indoor units can be connected to the Multi Hybrid system, such as: wall, duct, or ceiling units, which will realize cooling of rooms in summer. The hybrid module, on the other hand, will realize space heating through a traditional water system and domestic hot water preparation. The hybrid module itself will, after electricity and gas prices, choose the most economical mode of operation: heat pump only, hybrid mode or gas boiler mode only.

The Multi Hybrid, as well as the Hybrid Heat Pump, provide a smart solution for heating, cooling and domestic hot water preparation that ensures year-round comfort.
