Roof-integrated photovoltaics - what are their advantages over traditional panels?

16 of May '23

From the series "Eco-friendly solutions and technologies—trends 2023"

In December 2022, the number of installed photovoltaic installations in Poland reached 1,193,051 units, with more than 350,001 installed in 2022 alone. There are many interesting solutions on the Polish photovoltaic market, including those whose installation does not interfere with the roof structure. One of them are photovoltaic panels integrated into the roof Lindab SolarRoofTM

Lindab SolarRoof™ is a finished roof with thin-film photovoltaic panels (1.8 mm) from British company Verditek, which together form a single, aesthetically pleasing plane. The panels are made with state-of-the-art mono PERC technology with high efficiency even in less optimal lighting conditions. The system is characterized by high energy efficiency of up to 98% due to individual control of individual panels. It is integrated, i.e. that when ordering Lindab SolarRoof™ , the customer receives the whole package: inverters, optimizers and the necessary connection accessories, in addition to access to a mobile app, through which electricity production can be monitored in real time. What else makes Lindab SolarRoof™ different from traditional photovoltaics?

The aesthetics of the entire roofing

When building their dream home, investors spend a lot of time choosing the color scheme of the roof, gutter system or facade. The decision on photovoltaic installation often comes later and the choice is limited to conventional photovoltaic panels, which, when installed on the roof, can negatively affect the overall appearance of the building. Therefore, when we are convinced that we want to have photovoltaics, already at the stage of construction it is worth considering other solutions such as Lindab SolarRoof™ photovoltaic panels, among others. Thanks to them, investors no longer have to choose between functionality and appearance of the roof. The modules come in two color versions: navy blue and black, so they blend well especially with graphite, gray and black roofing, which is currently the most fashionable among investors. Choosing roofing in Elite Mat RAL 9005 coating, combined with black photovoltaic modules, you get an amazing visual effect. The panels are perfectly integrated into the roof, becoming virtually unnoticeable to the eye.

convenience of maintenance

The transparent and hard polymercoating of SolarRoof™ photovoltaic modules, as well as the absence of glass elements or micro-cracks, allows roofers to move freely around the modules without risk of damage. In addition, it is permissible to use a high-pressure washer during any maintenance work on the roof, making roof-integrated photovoltaics more practical than conventional solutions.

high efficiency even after 25 years

A photovoltaic installation is a solution that we expect to work efficiently and trouble-free for many years. Lindab SolarRoof™ is guaranteed for 25 years against loss of output by up to 15%, so after 25 years, the warranty period, the photovoltaic system will produce at least 85% of the energy volume as at the beginning. This means that the depreciation rate of photovoltaic panels integrated into the roof will be moderate.

maintained roofing warranty

A very important issue that many investors opting for conventional photovoltaics are not aware of is the loss of the roofing warranty when the photovoltaic panels are installed. Conventional photovoltaics are installed using a very invasive installation technique, namely dovetail drilling. The guarantee sometimes given by installers of conventional photovoltaics on the quality of the installation work does not apply to the roofing, but refers only to the quality of the workmanship of the mounting of the support structure.

Aroof with Lindab SolarRoofTM panels comes with as much as a 50-year warranty, as the integration of the photovoltaic cells into the roof is carried out at the factory by Lindab. In addition, when deciding to purchase photovoltaics and roofing from Lindab, the investor is guaranteed cost savings, since the delivery of the entire system including accessories is carried out together with the roof.
