Size, shape, color. A shower enclosure tailored to the architect's vision.

19 of August '26

From the series “Bathrooms and Fixtures — Trends for 2026”

In a well-designed bathroom, chance should not determine the proportions, the placement of glass panels, or the color of the details. The shower area is increasingly becoming an integral part of the interior design concept —subordinated to its geometry, materials, and character. Therefore, a shower enclosure no longer needs to be an element to which the architect adapts the design. It can be exactly the opposite: the shower enclosure can be adapted to the interior designer’s vision. An example of this approach is Radaway’s solutions, which allow for the customization of the shower area in terms of dimensions, shape, finish, and type of glass. As a result, the shower enclosure can become an almost invisible backdrop for the interior design or—on the contrary—a striking element that defines its rhythm and character.

Custom-Made Shower Enclosures—When the Design Doesn’t Fit the Standard

Contemporary interiors do not always conform to catalog modules. Sloped ceilings, recesses, atypical room heights, attic conversions, or irregular wall lines mean
that a ready-made product with standard dimensions is often a compromise solution.

In such situations, the option of a custom-made shower enclosure becomes essential. Radaway offers this option in its “Na Miarę” (Custom-Made) program across nearly all its series, allowing the dimensions of the shower area to be adapted to the specific interior, rather than having to adapt the design to available standard sizes. The new custom shower enclosure configurator, which allows you to view the product in 3D and in augmented reality (AR), will help you choose a specific model.

This is particularly important in projects where maintaining consistent axes, even divisions, and specific proportions is crucial. A difference of just a few centimeters can determine
whether the shower enclosure’s line aligns with a tile joint, the edge of a built-in unit, or the axis of the sink. Customizing dimensions allows you to treat the shower area as an element of interior architecture, rather than a fixture added at the end of the design process.

The shape of the shower enclosure is determined by the space, not the other way around

The second design tool is geometry.

A corner enclosure, a door set into a niche, a walk-in design, a large glass panel, or a more elaborate structure consisting of doors and fixed panels—each of these options organizes the bathroom differently.

In small spaces, the way the door opens and minimizing the number of elements that encroach on the walkway can be crucial. In larger bathrooms, you can opt for an expansive, open walk-in area, which visually organizes the space and allows you to showcase stone, large-format tiles, or decorative fixtures.

A good example is Radaway’s minimalist Modo series, which features large glass surfaces. Variants with glass panels up to 10 mm thick and up to 3 meters high allow you to design the shower area as a clear, architectural plane, without the need for additional visual elements.

The variety of shower enclosure types means that the selection process doesn’t have to start with the question, “Which model will fit in the bathroom?” but rather with a much more design-oriented one: “How should
this space function and look?”

Color as Part of the Interior’s Material Language

Just a few years ago, the details of a shower enclosure almost automatically meant chrome. Today, profiles, hinges, and handles are part of the same composition as faucets, light fixtures, mirror frames, and furniture hardware.

Black can emphasize the graphic character of the interior. A brushed nickel finish will blend better with a calm, warm palette of stone and wood. Brushed Gunmetal can serve as a counterpoint to light-colored terrazzo or concrete-textured surfaces. White, on the other hand, allows the shower enclosure’s structure to blend almost seamlessly with the bathroom’s light-colored architecture.

Radaway offers its various product lines in a range of color options. The lineup includes, among others, black, white, chrome, gold, brushed gold, brushed nickel, and Gunmetal options, allowing the enclosure’s color to be selected to complement the rest of the bathroom’s fixtures.

For an architect, this is a fundamental difference. The shower enclosure ceases to be a standalone product and becomes part of a cohesive system of materials and details.

Not Just Clear Glass

Customization goes beyond the structure.

Glass can serve as a neutral, nearly invisible space divider, but it can also contribute to creating the interior’s atmosphere. Radaway offers, among other options, clear glass, UltraClear®, graphite, and brown glass; a Print and Engrave service is also available, allowing patterns to be applied to the glass panel.

This opens up new possibilities for designers.

In a minimalist interior, a highly transparent pane can almost disappear, allowing for visual continuity among materials. In a more atmospheric design, tinted glass can add extra depth. Printing and engraving, on the other hand, can serve as a tool to create a custom design, repeat a motif found
in other design elements, or to enhance privacy in the shower area.

A detail that doesn’t complicate everyday life

Design freedom shouldn’t mean sacrificing ergonomics.

In the bathroom, it’s especially important that surfaces are easy to keep clean. That’s why all Radaway models feature the water-repellent Easy Clean coating, which prevents water droplets from lingering on the glass surface and makes it easier to maintain.

Construction details also matter. In select series, the hinges or clamps are flush with the glass surface, creating a more uniform surface on the inside of the shower enclosure that’s easier to clean.

These may seem like minor decisions, but it is precisely at the intersection of aesthetics and everyday use that a product’s quality is most often revealed.

First the concept, then the product

For an architect, the greatest value of customization isn’t the sheer number of available options. It’s the ability to reverse the design process.

Instead of starting with the product’s limitations, you can start with an idea.

How wide should the shower area be? Where should its boundaries lie? Should the glass be practically invisible, or should it form a distinct frame? Should the detail match the color of the fixtures, or should it deliberately contrast with them? Should the shower enclosure’s geometry conform to the existing niche, or should it serve as an element that organizes the entire space?

Only then does the choice of a specific solution come into play.

This approach aligns well with the direction in which contemporary bathroom design is evolving. It is less and less about combining individual products,
and increasingly about creating a cohesive interior architecture in which materials, proportions, light, and details form a single system.

A Custom-Fitted Shower Enclosure

Dimensions, shape, color, type of glass, installation method, and structural details—each of these parameters can influence the final character of the bathroom.

The ability to customize them individually means that a shower enclosure is no longer just a technical component selected from a catalog at the end of a project. It becomes another tool in the designer’s hands.

And that’s when the most natural solution emerges: not a design tailored to the shower enclosure, but a shower enclosure tailored to the design.
