Herringbone vinyl panels - an alternative to wooden parquet that architects have come to love

01 of December '21

From the series "interior trends 2022"

Until recently, the choice was simple - if a customer wanted a timeless herringbone pattern on the floor, he had to opt for a wooden parquet. But now we have a new option - vinyl panels with a mineral core, which can also be laid in this traditional floor pattern. What are the advantages of this solution? Can herringbone panels compete with parquet? We will look at both options.

Herringbone vinyl panels - a very durable floor with a long history in the background

The"herringbone" pattern has been known since the Roman Empire. It was used there for laying stone roads. Herringbone appeared in living rooms much later, in France, in the mid-16th century, but it became a real hit only at the 19th-century court of Queen Victoria. In Poland, this traditional floor pattern became fashionable in the early twentieth century. It was especially favored by the rich bourgeoisie and still adorns the floors of many pre-war townhouses. Therefore, it is not without reason that we associate herringbone with luxury in style.

Mineral core vinyl panels - "herringbone" in a non-classic look

SPC (solid polymer core) vinyl panels are a new generation of panels. Their structure consists of a hard core created from a combination of polymers and rock minerals. This construction results in the strongest and most durable panels that exist on the market. They are very thin, but heavy - because their strength lies in the high density of the material.

Mineral core vinyl panels are characterized by exceptional strength - this is a new generation flooring. See the Amaron Herringbone collection from Arbiton, which was created specifically for laying in the popular herringbone pattern. It is thanks to this modern solution that you can enjoy a floor that looks like a parquet. The color and texture of Amaron Herringbone panels even perfectly imitate the look of real wood, without requiring special maintenance.

Why are vinyl panels better than parquet?

Both vinyl panels laid in a "herringbone" pattern and parquet has its better and worse sides.

Wood parquet will give us a timeless, elegant look. A natural wooden floor, considered by many to be a symbol of luxury, and the method of installation (gluing) provides many design possibilities. However, it should be remembered that the installation method as well as the product itself is very expensive. The biggest disadvantage of this solution is the lack of water resistance and susceptibility to damage. Wood parquet is not suitable for the kitchen, let alone the bathroom. It requires regular maintenance and refreshing every few years.

Meanwhile, herringbone panels are not only a cheaper solution. Thanks to the latest technology, mineral-core vinyl panels are remarkably similar to wood in appearance, yet highly durable, resistant to mechanical damage, water, temperature changes, sunlight and UV radiation. They do not require expansion joints and are suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. They also have anti-static properties so they are perfect for allergy sufferers. They require no special treatment or maintenance. And both installation and removal are hardly problematic.

Panels or parquet? Design a useful and beautiful interior

Interior design is all about timeless beauty. But we must not forget about the functional qualities of the rooms. It is on them that it depends whether a project will be functional and whether the client will ultimately be satisfied with the work of the architect. Herringbone panels with mineral core, which will delight you both with their aesthetic appearance and exceptional durability. For such a floor, all you need to do is to choose the right skirting boards and you're done - the first stage of finishing your apartment is over.
