Natural stone is a widely used finishing material. However, to keep it in excellent condition, we must remember to impregnate it.

Solid beauty

Impregnation is the process of applying special protective substances to protect the stone. Because it is a natural material, stone is susceptible to damage. This is why impregnation is crucial for its long-term maintenance. Impregnation of natural stone is very easy. It is worth carrying it out regularly. There are many impregnants available on the market, which should be properly selected according to the type of stone and the place where it is used.

What kind of impregnator to choose?

There are many stone impregnation products available on the market. When choosing an impregnator, pay attention to the type of stone and its purpose. You can choose an impregnator that will enhance the color or create a wet stone effect on the tile. The most popular are two types of impregnators: water-based and solvent-based. The latter are slightly more durable, so they are recommended for outdoor use, such as on a terrace or facade. The water-based ones, on the other hand, are most often used indoors.

All impregnators are hydrophobic, which means that they protect against moisture. Such protection of stone tiles is very important, especially for bathrooms, terraces and facades. In the kitchen, on the other hand, we need to use an impregnator that will protect against the absorption of grease and other biological substances, which can lead to the staining and destruction of countertops or stone floors.

How to carry out impregnation?

Natural stone should be impregnated immediately after installation and then regularly renew the protective layer. The process is simple, but requires following several steps. First of all, the impregnated stone must be thoroughly cleaned of dust, dirt and other impurities. Special agents, so-called cleaners, which we can choose depending on the type of dirt, will help in precise cleaning. They will help us clean any stone. Only clean and dried stone is ready for impregnation.

Remember to carry out the impregnation with protective gloves! Impregnator is a ready-made product that doesn't need to be mixed or diluted. You can apply it in different ways, depending on the structure of the tile. For this purpose, a special sponge, brush or roller will work well. Pour the impregnator directly on the sponge and evenly cover the stone by rubbing it.
