"10 Questions to an Interior Designer" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...". This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Denisa Chomik talks about her approach to design.

Denisa Chomik-founder of DC Studio Architektura Wnętrz. About herself she writes "I approach each project individually. For me, each designed interior is unique and special, like the clients I work for. In my work I take care of every detail, because I know that it is the details that make up the whole. I always make sure that in a newly designed interior everything fits together perfectly, creating a unique atmosphere. My goal is to create an interesting, inspiring place where everyone will feel that they are at home."

1. For me, home is.

"Home is not the place where you live, but the place where they understand you" - Christian Morgenstern

I first saw this quote in 2015 on a hotel wall when I was still a student. To this day, it still accompanies me when designing interiors.

For me, a home is a place where the owner's soul is located, so each interior has a different character just like people. When designing an interior, each of us should adapt it to ourselves and our tastes and who we are. A home is a place where we have our asylum, a space for relaxation and private life.

2. The key to a successful interior design is...

Communication and understanding of the client at the very beginning of cooperation. Working with the client can be different, but there are many architects. Everyone will find the right person for themselves. The basis is free communication, so that working for both parties is a pleasure, not an ordeal. After all, we are creating a common living space. The energy we bring to the project and its finishing will carry over inside. That's why in my studio we start and finish projects very positively!

3. I look for inspiration in...

In travel. Nothing inspires me more than other places on earth. I am very fortunate that I can take my work with me and create projects from anywhere in the world and on every corner of the earth. Travel is a constant part of my life. I tailor each of them to my work and the places from which I can draw inspiration. I always come back with new tidbits from global showrooms, but also local spaces.

Currently, I draw inspiration from Dutch, French and Italian design. I am also inspired by each client who comes to me, their lifestyle, their vision of their dreams, which I always reflect in my designs.

I also look for inspiration on Pinterest, I guess like everyone else! It is mine "picture knowledge". It allows both me and the client to reflect the design needs.

4. In cooperation with the investor the most important thing is....

To create the interior of his dreams, which will not be another catalog place following trends, but a reflection of him and the lifestyle he leads. It is important that the investor has a space made to his liking, which he will enter with joy. I would like every investor to remember the feeling they get when they first see the finished interior - joy, peace, excitement and a sense of coziness.

5. My favorite design style is...

A mix of new and old. Interiors just like fashion are making a comeback. What was in vogue a dozen years ago now gets a second life, so my favorite style is to mix them. For example, a modern art interior with vintage elements. One thing is for sure, my designs are all about timelessness. These interiors will never become unfashionable, because they are based on classics with accessories that modernize the space.

6. The most valuable item in my home is...

Crystal glasses and a set of porcelain cups from my grandmother, which are older than me.

7. The most common mistake made when decorating interiors by yourself is...

Chaotic approach to decorating, lack of thoughtful functional layout, poor electrical placement and the desire to put everything we like into the space. If, someone can not afford the comprehensive service of an interior designer it is worthwhile to take advantage of a consultation at which I always advise such clients how to approach the subject and what are the best considerations for the interior chosen by the client. This allows you to save time when designing on your own, avoid mistakes and organize your thoughts.

8. My favorite material is...

Definitely wood, which gives coziness and warmth, as well as elegance. We can use it in many functions and zones in the interior.

9. A trend that I would like to see pass already is...

Following the interior style "on trend". I am an advocate of reflecting the client's style and personality in interiors. I would like everyone to approach a project individually, not according to a trend setter in a magazine.

10. Someday, I would like to live in...

A place where the sun shines 365 days a year. Nothing gives me as much strength and motivation to live as the sun.
