"10 Questions to an Interior Designer" is a series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...". This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Rafał Otłog, co-founder of Boris Kudlička with Partners, talks about his approach to design.

Rafał Otłog- co-founder of Boris Kudlička with Partners. He moved countless times during childhood. Finally settled in Warsaw to study architecture at the Politechnika. Driven by curiosity, he constantly crosses borders to see what awaits behind them. Extremely inquisitive and precise, he obsessively guards proportions, cares about axes and reigns in symmetry. He compulsively seeks objective values in a world dominated by subjective opinions. Apparently he picked up a pencil before he learned to walk.

1. For me, home is...

Energy. The experience of being in a space filled with people and objects that are close to me.

2. The key to a successful interior design is...

A deep understanding of the investor's needs and building mutual trust. During the design process, I strive to thoroughly understand the client's aesthetic, as well as functional and emotional preferences. Through open and transparent communication, we can achieve a result that creates a functional and visually satisfying space.

3. I look for inspiration in...

First of all, in the context of the investment, trying to understand the goals and needs of the investor. By studying the history of the place, the roots and character of the property in question, which allows me to better integrate the project into its surroundings. But what really inspires me to create is getting to know the client and understanding their unique vision. Ultimately, my work is based on emotions — at Boris Kudlička with Partners, we strive to create designs that are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing, but also evoke positive emotions in the owners and the communities for which they are intended.

4. In cooperation with the investor the most important thing is...

Openness on both sides and mutual trust, which allows a free exchange of ideas and opinions. As architects, then we better understand the investor's vision and preferences, which allows us to customize the project. In addition, being open to suggestions creates an opportunity for continuous improvement of the design.

5. My favorite design style is...

One that is perfectly matched to the expectations of the investor and the context of the project. It is important that it is consistent with the character and history of the place where it is created. We draw on local culture, traditions and materials. We try to use our skills and creativity to transform these expectations into concrete design solutions made by Boris Kudlička with Partners.

6. The most valuable object in my home is...

The bed, because there is nothing more valuable to an architect than sleep!

7. The most common mistake made by people who decorate their apartment on their own is...

Not hiring an architect. Many people do not realize the potential complications, problems and additional costs that can arise without professional design help.

8. My favorite material is...

Natural wood. The variety of its species, textures and colors makes it extremely versatile in interior design. It can be used in a variety of styles, adding natural beauty to both the block and the interior.

9. A trend that I wish would pass away already is...

Superficially understood ecology. I'd like to see a society go beyond superficial gestures and really commit to reducing our carbon footprint, sustainable production and preserving natural resources for future generations.

10. Someday, I would like to live in...

In a small Italian town. I'm fascinated by the richness of the local cuisine, combined with the brilliant landscapes and relaxation as per the principle: dolce far niente.
