How does Alicja Majewska live? We visit the artist's attic

22 of January '24

Alicja Majewska has lived in her Warsaw home for more than 48 years. Now its attic has been given a new life. The metamorphosis of this interior was carried out by Magdalena Miśkiewicz.

A pleasant surprise

Zbigniew Wodecki, Artur Andrus and Michał Bajor are just some of the names who visited here. Initially only the first floor part of the artist's house was adapted. It was only 20 years later that the space under the roof was arranged. Currently, the attic is the singer's creative place.

- I climbed up the ladder here and saw what incredible potential there was. I concluded that it must not go to waste - says Alicja Majewska.

In the attic, it was possible to create a seating area, a bedroom, a bathroom and a studio with its most important element — the piano.

Friendly advice

After years, it was time to change the arrangement and introduce color to replace the original white. The singer turned to Magdalena Miśkiewicz for help. The architect was recommended to Alicja Majewska by Andrzej Piaseczny, to whom she also designed the apartment.

- Magda was my salvation! I felt so bad in the previous arrangement that I couldn't imagine living in it any longer. We understood each other wonderfully. She immediately sensed my needs for change and what I cared about. We had a fantastic time working together. I love color and it's what I was missing - says the singer.

Introducing color

The metamorphosis took place during the pandemic, which significantly affected the whole process and its length. In the end, everything took two years.

- Alicja Majewska actively participated in every choice and in making every decision, even the smallest one, thanks to which an interior perfectly tailored to the needs of the owner was created — says Magdalena Miśkiewicz.

Instead of cold white, the designer suggested a creamy shade. This color appears on the walls. To warm up the space, some parts were also covered with wallpaper in a sage shade. In addition, the interior was decorated with earthy colors, calm greens, beiges and reds. The color of the floor was also changed. There were also new decorative elements and lamps. Everything is complemented by a marriage of contemporary furniture with vintage models. The focal point of the living room is the sofa. The furniture got new upholstery in a soft olive color. Right next to it stood a new pouffe finished with bouclé fabric. The lounge area also features a 1960s bench and a wicker armchair.

Creative zone

In the artist's studio there is an antique piano. Opposite the instrument, a seating area for guests was created, which is ideal for musical gatherings. It consists of two RM58 upholstered armchairs designed by Prof. Roman Modzelewski and a vintage glass table. Against the wall with a slant there is a wooden built-in. The capacious cabinets have been renovated. They were stripped of white paint, the natural grain of the wood was revealed, and the grilles masking the radiators were replaced with their copper counterparts.

A place of rest

The bedroom, like the other rooms, was decorated in natural colors. You won't find much furniture here. The arrangement consists of a wooden bed, bedside table and a colorful screen, which adds an energetic touch to the whole room. An interesting solution is a lace canopy that also serves as a curtain. It makes the bedroom extremely cozy and romantic.
