A florist's apartment in Krakow's Podgórze district - a project that combines light, marble and emotions

An apartment has been created in Krakow's Podgórze district with one goal - to restore balance. It was designed by Patrycja Turaj of Auroom Concept for a woman who starts her day while the city is still sleeping. A florist, starting work before dawn, she needed a space where she could find a breather after intense hours of work. The house became her asylum - full of light, peace and quiet.

Podgórze - a district that still has a soul

Podgórze has for years attracted those who appreciate the real pace of the city - unhurried, more human. You can still feel the breath of old Krakow here: in the facades of old tenements, backstreets and the morning light reflecting off the Vistula River. In one of the new buildings, among the greenery and overlooking the Wawel Castle, an apartment was created that perfectly fits the climate of this part of the city. The owner - a florist - starts her day when the rest of the city is just going to bed. In her profession, harmony and the rhythm of nature are important. In the house she wanted to find their echo - a space that soothes the senses, but is not obvious. Without an excess of forms, without decorative overkill. Patrycja Turaj designed an interior that does not impose itself, but allows one to abide in peace.

Marble that records time

The starting point became Calacatta marble - a material in which each vein is arranged like a line in a precise drawing, guiding the eye along the natural rhythm of the stone. A joint visit to the stone workshop determined everything: nature won out over technological perfection. The marble was used not only for the kitchen countertop, but also for the coffee table and fireplace portal. Everything designed from scratch, with attention to proportion and rhythm.

We couldn't find a table that fully reflected the character of the interior, so I drew it. Then I turned the sketch into a 3D model and we realized it together with the stonemason. Marble has the quality of being like a sculpture - each piece is unique

- recalls Turaj.

The result was a piece of furniture that looks more like a sculpture than a utilitarian object.

Light that changes the mood

Light plays a key role here. It doesn't just illuminate, but leads the narrative - it changes the rhythm of the day and affects the mood. The Gira KNX system allows you to control its intensity and color, adjusting the interior to the time of day or the mood of the owner.

In the morning, the light wakes up the apartment softly, spilling over the walls and marble like mist. In the evening, it drowns in warm reflections that envelop the space, calming it before sleep. Even the switches become part of the arrangement - their metallic surface gently reflects the light, as if to emphasize its presence.

Nature's subtle alphabet

Although you won't find literal floral motifs here, the spirit of nature is present in every detail. Gold handles shaped like strelitzia, hummingbirds on the display case, fish in the bathroom - small details that build the mood, and at the same time remind us who the owner is. The interior was built with beiges, warm grays and sand tones, which gently intermingle, creating a calm background for the light.

Despite the small size - 60 square meters - the space seems open. Every piece of furniture has its place, nothing is random. In the center is the living room with an open kitchen - the heart of the house. The bedroom, hidden behind soft curtains, is a zone of silence. Here, the light of the morning has the most to say - it reflects in the fabrics, highlights the textures, and wakes up the day unhurriedly.

Technology in the background

Modernity in this apartment is present, but almost invisible. The Gira KNX system manages light, heating and blinds - quietly, unobtrusively, without flaunting the technology.

I didn't want the smart home to be visible here.He is supposed to work in the background - just like music, which you can't see, but clearly improves your mood

- says the designer.

This approach captures the philosophy of the entire project: the interior is to serve the human being, not the other way around. Smart solutions do not compete with nature - they cooperate with it, allowing the space to respond to the rhythm of the day. The result is a house that is both sensual and logical, emotional and functional.

An interior whose story is just beginning

Although the project was completed in late 2024 and early 2025, the story of this interior is just beginning. The marble will tarnish over time, the light will change direction, and new bouquets will appear in the vases. This is a home that will age with the owner - unhurried, in tune with the rhythm of life.
