02 of November '22

Delicate, but at the same time solid, and above all - timeless. Such is the Viennese braid.

What is the Viennese braid?

Viennese braidis an openwork pattern used for furniture and interior accessories. This material is made from rattan and is characterized by an octagonal form resembling a honeycomb. Its history dates back more than 150 years. Back then, German-Austrian carpenter Michael Thonet, a pioneer of industrial furniture production and creator of the iconic Thonet 14 chair, designed the Viennese braid. The element appeared in the seat of the famous Chair Coffee-house, which in time moved Viennese coffee houses to apartments and homes.

Wicker chairs

Wicker is both flexible and sturdy. That is why it is used to create seats and backrests. The material is also much more comfortable than hardwood, which makes chairs with a Viennese weave extremely comfortable. They are also characterized by remarkable durability. Some chairs with Viennese weave are used for decades. However, if after years, some parts of the wicker chair need renovation, you can easily do it yourself.

Vienna plaid dresser

The most popular use of Vienna plaid in modern furniture is for furniture fronts. They look especially good as part of a chest of drawers. Models with curves and arches will bring lightness to the interior. You can also bet on contrast and opt for a black wooden dresser with a Viennese weave. Such a piece of furniture will work well in minimalist interiors, adding a touch of fantasy.
