Mid-Century Modern style living area

15 of March '23

We have previously presented the bedroom and children's rooms and bathrooms of a Warsaw apartment. Today we will look at the living area of the Decoroom studio project.

Natural and classy

From the threshold, the apartment captivates us with the aesthetics of the Mid-Century Modern style, combining classic elegance with modernity. The open living area, which is bright and spacious, yet cozy, fits perfectly into these assumptions. There is order and harmony here, introduced, among other things, by simple lines, meticulously selected accessories and original forms full of elegance. The walls are kept in the color of off white, which perfectly harmonizes with the wooden floor. Arranged in a French herringbone pattern, it corresponds beautifully with the discreet stucco on the walls. The corner sofa in a warm shade of coffee with milk looks good against this background. The seating area is complemented, as befits the Mid-Century Modern style, by a round table on graceful legs. Right next to it there are striking chairs and a patterned pastel carpet.

The TV cabinet also deserves special attention. Designed and made especially for this interior by the Decoroom studio, its design refers to the classics of the 1950s and 1960s - veneered dachshund-type chests of drawers on high legs. The whole is illuminated by a design icon - a hat-shaped lamp. However, these are not all the delights hidden in the living room. For it is full of arrangement details that surprise with their functionality. On the wall hangs a painting by Zuzanna Żmudzińska, which has been in the family for years and perfectly harmonized with the interior. A modern bookcase, tucked away in the corner of the living room, along with additional lighting, creates an ideal reading corner.

Kitchenette in the background

Designed and custom-made in the author's Decoroom carpentry shop, the built-in furniture blends into the arrangement, forming a stylistically coherent part of the design of the entire living area. Beige-colored upper cabinets are routed to the ceiling, and thanks to their smooth, matte fronts with vertical division, they subtly meld with the light-colored walls. In turn, the lower cabinets, made of veneer, with simple steel handles, repeat the design of the RTV cabinet, providing a consistent continuation of the living room's design. The distinguishing element of the kitchen area is the countertop and the wall just above it, made of quartz sinter. Its warm colors, set in a palette of grays, have been repeated on the floor tiles running along the kitchen area and in the color of the backs of the original chairs. The boundary between the kitchen and living room is further defined by a large dining table with a round top, perfectly in keeping with the classic elegance of Mid-Century Modern.
