Architects from the Kontraforma studio carried out a metamorphosis of a studio apartment. The apartment belongs to a retired single woman, who wanted a cheerful and not entirely serious interior.
Space for one person
The36-square-meter apartment is located in Cracow, in a building from the 1960s. The apartment is located on the first floor, and its windows overlook the tenants' gardens. Situated on a walking alley, near the Młynówka Królewska park in Bronowice, the apartment is a perfect place to relax amidst green, quiet surroundings. The renovation involved changing the functional layout to an apartment for one person. Previously, there was a specially separated room for a child, which was now no longer needed.

- We decided to designate with a curtain a small, intimate space for the bed. This procedure allowed us to enlarge the living area," explain the designers.
The investor also cared about storage space, so a capacious closet was separated. The apartment became spacious and bright, and the kitchen gained additional meters of worktop and sizable cabinets for utensils.
Classics with a twist
The architects opted for bright wall colors highlighted by subtle pea-colored trim. In addition, we also find here the classic duet of white and black.
- We are located on the first floor, so it was very important to ensure maximum brightness in the depths of the apartment, complemented by contrasting black accessories, the authors of the project explain.
An interesting use of colors can be found in the entrance area. It has been optically separated from the rest of the room by painting the door and walls black.

Objects with history
The arrangement stands out thanks to objects that are important to the owner and give the space a unique character. One of them is a wooden memento - a statue of a thoughtful Christ. Another is a painting by Krzysztof Bucky, which introduces a strong color accent.
- We decided to save the parquet floor and have it sanded. We also used popular, inexpensive brands in the design," the architects emphasize.
The whole is complemented by a considerable number of mirrors, which reflect the light and lush vegetation of the front garden.

Bedroom with an artistic touch
This part of the apartment stands out with decorative details. The wall above the bed is decorated with a mustard-colored mural. It is complemented by a black wall lamp with a modern form. Next to the bed there is a black round bedside table, while space has been set aside for a small bookcase by the window. However, the element that draws the most attention is the carpet with a charateristic geometric motif taken from Marazzi Scenario tiles.

Natural living area
The living room was decorated with comfort in mind. A soft sofa in a neutral shade of beige juxtaposed with striped pillows and delicate blankets creates a cozy place to rest. It is complemented by a round coffee table with a marble top. The warmth of the wooden furniture combined with the neutral colors of the walls makes the interior exude coziness.

The kitchen is a timeless classic. The cabinetry made of oak veneer was finished with white lacquered fronts with a decorative frame. To make maximum use of the small space, modern storage systems were used. Meanwhile, the annex space itself was delineated with tiles with the same graphic motif that appears in the bedroom.

Romance of color with form
The bathroom is a combination of minimalist modernity with subtle references to the retro style. Walls lined with tiles with a variety of textures - from geometric semicircles to lines - create an intriguing three-dimensional composition. The color scheme of warm brown and white harmonizes with industrial details, such as the black towel holder. The terazzo flooring adds a unique touch, introducing an element of fun and creativity.
