Previously, we have already looked at the arrangement of the bedroom and bathroom of a Lodz apartment. Today we visit the living area designed by Edyta Skiba and Aleksandra Strąk of the r_au_m* design group.
Consistent juxtaposition of opposing elements
Despite the industrial atmosphere, the more than 100-square-meter apartment has a view of greenery. Likewise, the apartment's arrangement combines these seemingly opposite aesthetics - rawness and coziness. However, the whole thing managed to balance well thanks to thoughtful design. Thus, raw plywood in the form of smooth furniture fronts contrasts here with rough wall cladding made of concrete slabs. Dark kitchen furniture harmonizes with navy blue velour sofas, and the steel wall separating the study, filled with reinforced glass, was broken with a rectangular ornament of birch plywood cladding.

Tailored to the needs
The functional layout, designed by the Kanon studio of Lodz, required only a few minor transformations. The heart of the interior is the corner living room, which has two functional pockets: a kitchenette with a representative island and a dining room, which flows seamlessly into the study. An additional passageway to the dining room shortened the communication and created space for a built-in storage closet and a multifunctional piece of furniture with a stereo and a decorative cabinet-bar.
- Architecture, regardless of the scale of a project, requires careful listening to investors and all those involved in the project, Edyta Skiba emphasizes.

Industrial kitchen
The annex was designed in the spirit of minimalism with the use of contrasting materials. Matte black fronts of upper cabinets were juxtaposed with natural wood, which introduces warmth and naturalness. The white kitchen countertop with built-in induction hob also serves as an island, which is also a storage zone - below it are shelves with cookbooks. Above the countertop, a modern linear-shaped lamp was placed, which subtly illuminates the space, emphasizing its elegance.

Dining room with character
The dining room impresses with its simplicity, but also with unique details. A solid wooden table is surrounded by chairs with black openwork backs, which add lightness to the arrangement. Above the table hang designer black lamps that vary in angle, creating an interesting light composition. The background for the table is a tall window with a simple blind, and green potted plants that add a natural touch.

Open space
The view from the living room shows the spaciousness of the apartment. In the foreground is a comfortable sofa in a deep shade of navy blue, decorated with pillows in similar tones. In the background we see a glass wall separating the dining room from the study. This is an ideal solution to keep the space open, while separating functional zones. However, the boundaries between the zones are very fluid. For example, a cabinet with audio equipment also serves as a storage area for household appliances. Meanwhile, a projector has been hung near the kitchen island, allowing residents to comfortably watch movies in the comfort of their living room.
