Warsaw's Sielce district is getting a new development - in a building at 4 Kierbedzia Street, Eiffage Immobilier Polska is creating a space with a hand-crafted mosaic by Dominika Jastrzębska, an artist from Cracow. The abstract composition in shades of green, brown and beige alludes to the modernist traditions of Mokotow, showing how detail and art can enrich contemporary construction with a unique character.

Mosaic - a technique from the ages
Mosaic is one of the oldest forms of architectural decoration. Already in antiquity it decorated Roman villas and temples, combining an aesthetic and symbolic function. In Poland, it gained particular importance in the modernism of the 1960s and 1970s, when geometric, abstract compositions appeared on the facades of residential buildings, service pavilions and in the interiors of townhouses. Over time, they gave way to smooth plaster and minimalist finishes, and the technique was overshadowed by modern architecture. Today it is making a comeback, appearing in hotels, restaurants, boutiques and public spaces, bringing an element of art and craft tradition into everyday life. At 4 Kierbedzia Street, the mosaic plays not only a decorative role, but also a symbolic one. It is a bridge between the neighborhood's history and contemporary design and gives the space an individual character that is lacking in standard residential projects.

Architecture of the investment
The complex at 4 Kierbedzia Street consists of an eight-story residential building and a single-story service pavilion. The project refers to the clear forms of modernism: harmonious proportions, high-quality materials and refined detail. However, it's the mosaic tiles that are the distinguishing element of the investment here. In the lobby and at the entrance to the building, hand-laid tiles create abstract patterns that bring rhythm and coherence to the entire space. The color scheme in shades of green, brown and beige harmonizes with the architecture, and the geometric compositions give the interior an individual character.

Workshop by Dominika Jastrzębska
The author of the mosaic is Krakow-based artist Dominika Jastrzębska, whose workshop was honed in Portugal - a country with a rich ceramic tradition. There she encountered an approach to the material, in which each fragment has a meaning for the whole, and the details define the rhythm and character of the composition.

The process of creating the mosaic is a multi-stage one. Each piece is created by hand: from the preparation of the ceramic mass, through casting and firing, to glazing and re-firing, which gives the colors depth and a subtle sheen. The tiles are arranged like a puzzle, so that the whole forms a harmonious, cohesive composition. As a result, each mosaic is unique - even the smallest detail differs from the other elements, which makes the work not a repetitive serial pattern.

The Kierbedzia 4 project was inspired by a 1969 composition by Czesław Wielhorski, Julian and Krzysztof Henisz, made for the International Press and Book Club at 71 J. Dąbrowskiego St. Today, the only surviving fragment of this decoration are the tiles on the facade - a testimony to the modernist aesthetics of Mokotow.
The mosaic has an unusual strength to it, combining the patience of handicraft with the energy of creative vision. Small fragments, which separately seem inconspicuous, together form a coherent whole, giving the space a soul

A renaissance of detail
For Eiffage Immobilier Polska, mosaic is not just an aesthetic element. It is an expression of the philosophy that architecture should inspire, not just fulfill functional functions. Careful attention to detail, quality of materials and consistency of design are the cornerstones of the developer's approach.

On the one hand, it's a nod to the history of Mokotow and the modernist tradition of the district, and on the other hand, it's a fresh look at contemporary design, which is increasingly looking for unique elements that distinguish a building

project manager at Eiffage Immobilier Polska.
