Properties of stain-resistant paint

Stain-resistantpaint has several important properties that allow it to effectively protect the surface from stains and make cleaning easier.

Resistance to stain-forming substances

Stain-resistant paints are resistant to a variety of substances , such as grease, oil, coffee, red wine or other liquids that can cause hard-to-remove stains.

Ease of cleaning

Surfaces painted with stain-resistant paint are easy to clean. Stains and dirt can usually be removed with mild detergent or clean water, and the paint coating is not damaged.

Durability

Stain-resistant paints are usually durable and resistant to abrasion. As a result, they maintain their quality and appearance for a long time, even in high-traffic areas.

Resistance to weather conditions

Some stain-resistant paints can also be weatherproof, making them suitable for outdoor use.

It's worth noting that different brands and types of paint may have slightly different properties, so it's always a good idea to read the manufacturer's instructions and product specifications before buying and using a particular stain-resistant paint.

Classes of resistance to washing

Manufacturers of stain-resistant paints, conduct detailed quality tests under laboratory conditions. Their purpose is to assign the product to the appropriate class of resistance to washing. They are described in the PN-EN 13300:2002 standard. The surface covered with the tested paint is subjected to 40 or 200 scrubbing cycles. The lab technician then measures the surface loss.

The results are classified as follows:

Class I - minimal loss;
Class II - slight loss ≧5 i;
Class III - noticeable loss of ≧20 i;
Classes IV and V - significant loss already after 40 abrasion cycles, this means that the paint is not wash resistant

Paints must also comply with the PN-C-81914:2002 standard. Here they are divided into three categories. The first are those resistant to wet scrubbing, the second are wash-resistant paints, and the third are dry abrasion-resistant products.

How to clean washable paint?

Try to remove stains and dirt as soon as possible after they occur. The longer they stay, the more difficult it will be to remove them. To clean stain-resistant paint, use gentle products that do not contain strong chemicals. Water with a mild detergent is enough to remove most stains. Use soft cloths, sponges or mops to avoid scratching the paint surface. Avoid hard brushes, however. Avoid using caustic substances such as ammonia or agents containing strong acids, as they can damage the paint film. Before using a detergent or other cleaning product, test it on an invisible part to make sure it won't change the color or damage the paint. It's always a good idea to read the manufacturer's instructions for stain-resistant paint, as they may include specific cleaning and maintenance recommendations.
