Undoubtedly, the kitchen should be decorated spacious and functional. This is the basis if we spend a lot of time in it, fulfilling our role as a chef. When arranging this space, therefore, we should keep in mind the proper arrangement of furniture and household appliances. An ergonomic layout will ensure that we apply the principles of the so-called work triangle.

There is a theory that says that in order for the kitchen to be practical, it is necessary to maintain appropriate distances between the refrigerator, sink and stove. It is assumed that the correct distance from the refrigerator to the sink is 120-210cm, from the refrigerator to the stove 120-270cm, while from the stove to the sink is suggested 90-210cm. This is due to the activities we perform in sequence. First we take the products out of the refrigerator, wash them, and then proceed to thermal processing. The working triangle determines the dependence of all three functional zones on each other.

Kitchen zones in different layouts

However, let's not take this rule too literally. The layout of furniture and, consequently, the arrangement of equipment will depend on the shape of the room. In small spaces it is not uncommon to see a single-row furniture layout. If adapting to the rules is difficult for some reason, it is worth leaving at least the order in force and maintaining at least some of the recommended distances.

In a two-row layout, ideally the refrigerator and sink should be placed on the same side. In "L" shaped kitchens, the cooking zone is usually located at the shorter side.

In spacious apartments, a recently fashionable layout is kitchens with an island, which can perform many different functions. One of them can be the chosen zone for storage, cooking, or dishwashing. However, the most practical is to install a cooktop in this place. Then, when preparing meals, we will stand facing the household members or guests accompanying us .

The distribution of appliances should be done already at the design stage, so that it is consistent with the installation - water, electricity and gas connections. Between them will be the kitchen cabinets, topped with a worktop, which should ensure a minimum distance between the appliances. It is also extremely important to adjust the height of the countertops to the height of the kitchen users.
