Waste segregation can be more convenient

06 of July '23

Lack of space in the kitchen - this is one of the most frequently cited reasons for not sorting trash. Many people, even if they realize the importance of recycling, do not know how to organize waste sorting at home. Meanwhile, you only need to allocate one lower cabinet for the segregation set. One! That's enough to ensure your convenience and take care of the environment.

Waste generated at home, in order to be processed, must be divided into separate fractions. We separate: plastics and metals, glass, paper, bio-waste that can decompose quickly, electro-waste, medicines, which we transfer to the appropriate points, as well as other mixed waste. Some of them, such as glass, we are able to reuse, while others like municipal waste, which goes to a landfill or incinerator, do not. In practice, this means that in order to segregate garbage at home, you need to permanently install several separate bins. And these, as you know, take up space. However, not as much space as you might think.

Yes, if we rely on random buckets, unergonomic in shape and mismatched, the corner for segregation will be a not very functional part of the kitchen. It will be unsightly and difficult to keep clean.

- Therefore, it is really worth betting on a solution designed with segregation in mind. Suitable sets, such as PRAKTIKO, JC or Variant MULTI, make maximum use of space, are functional and comfortable to use. They can be tailored to individual needs - choose baskets with the capacity of individual fractions that is right for you, and finally set them up as you are comfortable. They can be fully pulled out of the cabinet body, exactly like a drawer, which guarantees easy access to the bins. What's more, many of the available REJS systems can be installed in the furniture you already have! Without renovation, buying new cabinets or rearranging the cabinets! - explains Joanna Posadzy, Marketing Director of REJS.

How to adjust the cabinet for segregation?

Traditionally, the most convenient place for trash garbage cans is around the sink and dishwasher - for example, the cabinet under the sink. This is where we unwrap and wash food products. This is where we peel them before preparing a meal. This is also where we clean up afterwards and dispose of leftovers. So it's worth keeping baskets handy. Even when we have dirty or busy hands while cooking.

The sink trap can prove to be a problem. However, the traditional siphon can easily be replaced by a suitable model. The so-called wall-mounted drain set allows you to make better use of cabinet space. Just choose the right diameter of the drain and you're done - we have room for baskets. But which set to choose? The available options depend on the specifics of the cabinet.

For those narrow - with a width of 30, 40 or 45 cm, the JC and Variant MULTI segregation sets are ideal. They can be installed in cabinets with a hinged front, or attached to the pull-out part of the rack. In both cases, the entire rack with all bins is mounted on special slides attached to the cabinet.

JC and MULTI sets are available in several variants, differentiated by the number and capacity of containers. The former - JC can have 2 or 3 garbage cans in 2 heights. Complementing the set is a functional cover made of plastic (models for 30 and 40 cm wide cabinets) or metal (45 and 60 cm models), which completely covers the garbage cans from above. Thus, it protects against unpleasant odors and serves as an additional shelf.

On the other hand, MULTI sets, which also offer 2 or 3 plastic buckets with a capacity of 9 to 20 liters, are distinguished by a wire frame. These are lightweight and functional systems that are very easy to install and adapt to the furniture.

Segregation sets for wider cabinets

We have even more options when we have a wider cabinet. Here we can install not only the aforementioned JC racks, but also complete drawer systems, into which waste containers simply need to be inserted. An example is PRAKTIKO, a set of several baskets set on a collective tray. Available in 3 sizes - for cabinets 60, 80 and 90 cm wide, just insert into a drawer with a high front. Choose from sets with 2, 3 or 4 buckets with capacities from 7 to 20 liters. Each basket has a separate leak-proof lid. They are complemented by 2 or 3 smaller containers, in which we can keep, for example, old medicines or used batteries.

SEGREGO drawers can also be installed in 45, 50, 60 and 80 cm wide cabinets. This is a complete solution consisting of: running systems attached to the side walls of the cabinet, baskets (from 2 to 4, with different capacities), a cover that serves as an additional shelf, and a special rack for electric opening of the drawer.

Another option, the easiest to use, is to purchase individual garbage cans. Made of thick plastic, the bins are available in different sizes and capacities. They can be set in a cabinet, or hung on the front with a special handle. You can also put them in a drawer together with a special SORTE rack, which will prevent the bins from moving. This will make it easier to keep them in order. SORTE is available in 3 widths: 60, 80 and 90 cm.
