Warm, earthy colors are increasingly boldly entering interiors! One of the trend's most fashionable renditions is tone sur tone, an arrangement based on different shades of one color. Monika Rogusz-Witkoś of the Craft of Interiors studio opted for terracotta - a color inspired by natural pigments and ceramics. Subtle tonal transitions, used both on the walls and in furniture and accessories, create a cohesive, sophisticated space that soothes the senses. How to achieve such an effect? Let's take a closer look at this unique project.

What is the ton sur ton trend?
The name comes from the French language and simply means "ton sur ton". Tone sur ton is a trend in fashion, visual design and interior design involving the juxtaposition of different shades of the same color. This creates a harmonious and elegant effect that gives cohesion and depth. Instead of contrasts, this style is based on subtle transitions between lighter and darker tones of one color. It can be used on walls, furniture and accessories alike, creating a layered yet subdued arrangement. Tone sur tone goes well with modern and minimalist interiors, but will also work well in classic arrangements. It looks especially good in elegant living rooms, bedrooms or bathrooms, where you want to create a cozy atmosphere. Tone sur tone is a great way to create an interior full of class and calm, without the risk of color chaos. Spaces maintained in this aesthetic effectively resist passing fashions, maintaining style and elegance for many years.
- This trend offers great scope for creative solutions. Within its framework, we can design both an interior with a modern character and a space full of classics - it all depends on the elements selected. What's more, ton sur ton is a guarantee of harmony and consistency, thanks to which each interior gains a refined and consistent look," says the author of the project, Monika Rogusz-Witkoś.

Harmony of terracotta shades
The key to a successful tone sur tone arrangement is the thoughtful selection of a base color. It should not only correspond to our preferences, but also harmonize with the atmosphere we want to create in the room. The next step is the skillful handling of shades. This allows you to bring out the depth and emphasize the assets of the space. Monika Rogusz-Witkoś designed the interior in a range of warm, clay tones. The walls in a shade of deep brick red were finished with matte plaster. They give the whole a subtle softness. The focal point of the bathroom is the original island, on which are placed two countertop washbasins in a color consistent with the palette of the interior. The base made of glossy, dark red tiles adds character and introduces an intriguing contrast, while the geometric form gives a modern twist. The variety of textures - from smooth, shiny tiles to raw wall finishes to the satin surfaces of the bathtub and basins - gives the space a simultaneously cohesive and multidimensional feel.

Play of textures and materials
Giving up the full color palette, we must focus on the appropriate use of textures and materials. This gives the monochromatic space depth and dynamism and gives it a distinct character. The basis for this subtle play of colors and tones is the skillful use of a variety of textures. A key role is played by the juxtaposition of matte and polished surfaces - their contrast makes the space expressive and elegant. Smooth, shiny elements reflect light, adding lightness to the arrangement, while matte textures introduce warmth and coziness. No less important aspect is appropriately selected lighting, which not only highlights the nuances of the finish, but also builds the atmosphere of the interior. Soft diffused light brings out subtle tonal transitions, while spot accents can highlight key details such as wall texture, tile texture or furnishing details. The effect is a harmonious and multidimensional composition in which each element plays its part in creating a cohesive, stylish whole.

Minimalist shower area
The shower area in this bathroom is the quintessence of elegance and harmony of tone sur tone style. Its distinctive character is based on the use of subtle tonal transitions, which give depth and coherence to the interior. Walls in shades of warm terracotta blend seamlessly with the floor, creating the impression of a unified, enveloping space. Minimalist fixtures in a matte metallic finish blend into the background, maintaining a subtle but luxurious aesthetic. An integrated linear drain accentuates the shower's modern character without disturbing the visual harmony. The whole is complemented by carefully selected details - dark, shiny tables and textiles in muted shades of brick. A pendant lamp with an abstract form adds a modern touch and balances the softness of natural textures.
