Highland barn - a combination of loft and folklore

21 of April '22

How to reconcile barn, loft and highland style? This task was undertaken by Balicka Design studio. The decoration of the house located in the mountains was to maintain a modern character combined with local traditions.

a mix of new and old

The dominant material in this interior is wood - we see it in every room of the house. The house was built in the type of a modern barn - referring to the typical shape of traditional barns. High openings of the living room are important. It was no different in this case.

The living room is a space maximally open to the beautiful mountain landscape. Simple, unpainted boards were chosen for the floor and ceiling. A black coffee table was placed in the center, which was surrounded by brown sofas and chairs. The fireplace was built in with a black casing. This color was also found on one of the walls with bookcases.

Dining area - dining room and kitchen

The living room was directly connected to the dining room and kitchen. It is a space dominated by light and black wood. Traditional Highland patterns adapted on the kitchen island and built-ins also appear in this space.

The children's room is worth noting. Here the color solution is interesting - the introduction of more white. Again there are buildings with elements of highland folklore. The main motif has become mountains - also visible on the walls.
