"10 Questions to an Interior Architect" is a new series of short talks inspired by the series "10 Questions to...". This time our attention is turned to interior architects. In today's episode, Liza Bykova talks about her approach to design.

Liza Bykova - founder of the interior design studio Line.Projekt. She is 24 years old. From her very childhood she knew that her calling was to be an interior designer. She really enjoys what she does and is happy to be able to help people create their personal, comfortable place. In 2020, during the pandemic, she set up her own interior design studio. In the first year she managed to do as many as 43 projects.

1 For me, home is.

A place that I want to return to. A space that is comfortable for me for a long time and nothing will annoy me in it. A place where I can gain strength and feel as comfortable as possible.

2 The key to a successful interior design is.

Combining aesthetics with functionality. Of course, everyone has their own concept of "functionality" and "aesthetics", but I am sure that the combination of these two ingredients is the best solution for the interior.

3 - I look for inspiration...

In new trends, exhibitions, nature and travel. In my opinion, when we travel the most we expand our world view, grow, gain experience and inspiration to work on new projects.

4 In working with an investor, the most important thing is.

Listening and understanding his needs. On the part of our team, we want to explain to him the advantages and disadvantages of each solution. Based on my experience, I came to the conclusion that the most important thing is communication with the client.

5 My favorite design style is.

I don't have any favorite style in interior design. I think that when designing, more important than relying on any particular style is to focus on the concept of beauty. A true aesthete will always notice beauty without looking at the name of the style or the thing in question. So I can't say that our studio works in any particular trend. Our priority is functionality and aesthetics to suit the client's needs.

6 The most valuable item in my home is....

The most valuable items in my home are the people that are there. I am a person who does not get attached to objects. The most important thing is the totality of what is in my home and the people who, together with me, create comfort and a good atmosphere.

7 The most common mistake made when decorating interiors yourself is....

Doing everything "by eye". Mistakes appear already at the first stage of interior design. Then they drag on until the very completion of the renovation. Buying materials "by eye", technical equipment "by eye" and many other mistakes that increase costs and can lead to big problems during the renovation.

8 My favorite material is.

I like natural materials, but of course it all depends on the needs and wishes of the client. I myself love cool textures (natural stone, tile), especially in warm seasons when we are looking for a cool down.

9 A trend that I wish would pass away already is.

Slats. A lot of people, seeing the huge number of projects using laths, want them in their interior. Yes, laths are nice, but there are already a lot of them. They are used everywhere, both in expensive and more budget projects. I, as a designer, would like to forget about this trend and use other interesting solutions.

10 I would like to live in... one day.

My dream is to live in a big bright house by the ocean, which will use only natural materials in light, sandy colors. I'm sure I will be able to achieve it.
